Was this movie shelved for a few years before release?

Was this one of those movies that wraps filming then sits on a shelf for years before release? The younger brother from Modern Family was in the pool scene and he looks the way he did back in like 2009.

Are you not entertained?!

I thought the exact same thing the first time I saw him when all the kids were waiting for the pool to open for the first time. Despite all of the great actors this wasn't a really high budget movie, around $1.5mil if I remember correctly. In cases with indie movies they usually try to shoot it quickly to save money, but they can sometimes spend a good amount of time in editing as it is usually not the top priority of the studio house or the editing is actually being done by the small team of film makers themselves.

The real process is finding a distributor and hashing out the deal as to best benefit both parties. Shopping between them and then bidding out costs and figuring the details can take a while. Unlike indie releases the studios making big budget films will have a contract lined up with a well known distributor from past projects so they usually have that figured out by the time they're entering the pre-production stage. It was finally released in 2013 in the US by CBS Films but it was released by a different distributor in Germany in 2012, just to show how the much the theatrical release can differ.

I do recall hearing about this movie WELL before it actually came out. It was called The Hand Job forever.

Also remember kids that age grow quickly. But yeah, it was definitely in post for a while
