Daphne's hair

In season 2, her hair looked so terrible. That flippy thing just looks revolting. I don't mean to be petty, but didn't they have hairstylists on set? Were they trying to make her look stupid?

They do have hairstylists, and I actually think their work is very good. But you are right that Daphne's hair looked terrible throughout Season 2. I remember thinking it at the time.

Maybe they were trying to make her look bad, but I don't know why. They did something similar to Toby when he returned from Iceland. His hair looked AWFUL.

Out of curiosity, which did you hate more? Daphne's chopped look early in Season 2 or the flippy thing later in Season 2?

For me, I found the chopped look the worst of all. But there's so many prettier things they could have done with her hair than either of those two looks.

For some reason, the people in charge always make Bay look better than Daphne. There's lots that they could do to make Daphne look good, but they don't often do any of them.

Phew, someone agrees with me! I think I hated her hair early on in season 2 more. Like how it was in the episode where she gets assaulted by that guy because of the food truck and the Romeo and Juliet/protest episode. I don't know, maybe they thought it was "in style" but I've never seen anyone with hair like that, at least no one her age.

I think the doinkiest her hair ever looked was the first epi (I think), the night of the Carlton fundraiser. The clipped-on-the-sides was angular and awful.

I don't remember a fundraiser in the first episode, but I might have missed it.

Could it have been the Carlton fundraiser at John's carwash, in episode 10?

Or the Carlton fundraiser later in the season, with Chef Jeff catering the event? I think Daphne's hair was clipped angular then.

Or maybe it was the first fundraiser that I remember, the one for Buckner at John and Kathryn's house, in episode 4. Emmett plays the drums with Toby and Wilke, for the first time, and either Regina or Melody puts a flower in Daphne's hair, before she goes out to the pool to flirt with Liam.

Was it any of those fundraisers?

For some reason, Daphne's hair has rarely looked good on the show. Neither has Toby's hair. Bay's hair and Emmett's hair often looks good. It's weird.

I have seen Katie Leclerc's hair look lovely away from the set, though. So I know it's possible. It seems to be Daphne who has the problem hairstyles.

reply

Oops, it was Buckner. I recall when they were getting ready, Daphne made some comment about having dressed up or had her hair done "like I did for quincianera". It was clearly supposed to look elegant, and it most decidedly did not...

Yeah, all it was was a straight half-up half-down kinda thing. I don't know, maybe they want her to look frumpy for some reason?

Do you have a picture of the style you're referring to?

It's kind of unfair when people compare Bay's hair to Daphne's. Vanessa Marano just naturally has a beautiful thick head of hair, it's very long and can be styled many ways. Katie's hair is just kind of basic, nothing all that exceptional about it. On her best day, her hair would never be as nice as Vanessa's in my opinion anyway.

reply

Besides that, one can argue that Bay was raised with upper class values, which would include to always look your best, and Daphne wasn't raised in an environment where it was that important. I never got the impression that she cared much about her hair at all.

But yes, Vanessa's hair is beautiful.

reply

Really? Daphne grew up with a hairdresser mother. You'd think a mother like that wouldn't let her daughter walk around with awful flippy layers like that.

reply

That depends on how important it was for Regina thaat Daphne listen to her when it comes to hair. She was 15 at the start of the show, that's old enough to decide herself how she wants to wear her hair, whether that looks awful to anyone or not.

How about the pilot, the way she wore it for the Carlton fundraiser? Looked ludicrous.
