does the asylum

even care how bad their movies look? where exactly is their market?

reply

Their market consists of two groups:
1. Bad-Movie fans who are in on the "joke" and watch their films because they enjoy the cheese level.

2. People who are stupid enough to rent their movies under the mistaken impression that they're getting the "real" blockbuster.

I happen to be a member of Group #1. As for Group #2, I believe if you're dumb enough to rent, say, "The Terminators" or "Alien Vs. Hunter" thinking that they're part of the legitimate series, then you deserve whatever you get.

No, it was not. And you are fool to think so. This is not an opinion, this is fact.

reply

No, it's an opinion, idiot! I'm an asylum fan, and there are millions of asylum fans out there. Do a little research before telling someone off. People are entitled to their own opinions. Ever heard of the asylum fanbase? D!p*h!t?

reply

The very fact that you took the time to look up this movie at IMDB and even more time to respond to someone's questions, means you probably watched the movie. The fact that you're such a jackass with your reply implies that you were probably part of Group #2 in the reply above. You watched a bad movie thinking you were gonna get something good for free and you got BURNED!! OWNED!! D'OH! Sucks 2 B U! A lot of us like a good, cheesy, B-rated (or H-rated, as the case may be) movie at 1am when we can't sleep.

Note: It's better to DVR these movies so you don't have to sit thru the 8-10 minute commercial interruptions that occur for movies played in the middle of the night and wee hours of the morning.

Anyone who truly likes Asylum films is truly deranged. They are not ''so bad they are good'', they are just smug and dreadful.

If you are sick of the ''I love Jesus 100% signature'', copy and paste this into your profile!

I agree for the most part - I do, however, think their film King of the Ants is fantastic. It's the one exception to thr rule of their films being awful.

I don't think they actually produced King of the Ants, just distributed it. Plus that film was directed by an genuinely talented director, Mr. Stuart Gordon. The hacks directing junk like this film here aren't even worthy of licking Stuart Gordon's feet while he's on set in his directors chair.

I oddly liked their I Am Omega more than I did I Am Legend, but agree that most their rip-offs are truly dire.

And I thought their Paranormal Entity was better than Paranormal Activity.

I definately want to give this a look, Battle: Los Angeles disappointed me a bit. I understand this is a low budget knock off but like previous posters have said, some of these knock offs are actually better than the original...

Asylums audience is grandmas who buy these dvd's for their grandkids. The same grandmas who buy the Black Knight starring Martin Lawrence instead of the Dark Knight, Starring Batman

I've known people at The Asylum. A number of times I've heard about them coming up with an effect that they thought was really cool, then the studio has some crazy changes they want to make that make it ugly. Needless to say the artists were not happy, but what can you do? Remember that The Asylum spits out roughly a movie a month, on average 12-13 movies a year. Most of the 3D work is done by 2 guys.

If you're interested there's a video interview with one of the artists from last year's Siggraph here:

But they don't make a really cool effect and the the studio says "write a bad script" so thats no excuse...

Chances are really good someone will accidentally rent this movie because "Battle: Los Angeles" isn't available.

I can picture a lot of people making this same mistake, and even angrily returning the DVD's to Blockbuster
complaining about this.

Fact is: Asylum has a model that works. Make super-crappy/quick knockoffs of major Hollywood Blockbusters.

Group 2 usually consists of soccer moms too retarded to know their ass from a hole in the ground. They're the same ones that will buy shovelware like "43 Party Games" for the Wii when they see it in a supermarket's bargain bin and think "This will be just as good as a Super Mario game".

Apparently not as they've proven it's possible to make an non-stop action movie boring. I thought there'd be at least some scene, some moment where it would pick up and not bore me. Nope, it was dull all the way through.

It's not even like I'm expecting a lot from them either. I know their reputation and their quality is subpar but even this was a disappointment by the already low standards of Asylum/Sy-Fy pictures.

In fact for this movie they hit a very vunerable target. Battle: Los Angeles did not do that well in the theatres so most people did not know who the stars were or the exact name. It also had lag time from its removal from theatres and its appearance on video shelves.

Therefore, when Asylum places Battle of Los Angeles and there is no Battle: Los Angeles sitting side by side, a mistake could be made.
