Oenomaus

Just watched re finale again, do you think he actually knew of the affair between gannicus and his lady or was living the final battle through Gannicus ??

reply

I think Oenomaus had an inkling that something was going on, but not anything intimate. He believes in duty and honor and would not do such a thing. Therefore, he would not expect his best friend to do so. Also, he knew that Melitta loved him (obviously not the same way at Gannicus). The other part is that Oenomaus wanted to be in the arena. If he could not, he was content to see his brother prevail. Oenomaus is a good man, but I would hate to see him really upset.

The fights scenes in the finale were excellent!

I personally think that he didn't think their relations were sexual in nature, I mean Ganni and him are like brothers, more so than anyone else in the Ludus. He probably thought that his wife shared the same feelings towards Ganni as he did. I think he thought that he thought that Ganni was so upset over her death because just like he saw Ganni as his brother Oenomaus thought Ganni saw her as his sister. I mean if my best friends wife who I was just as close to as him died I would mourn her like a sister.

I think its that strong feeling of brotherhood that Oenomaus feels for Ganni is what will make him go nuts when he learns of the truth. I mean just to think of it, you have this brother who is there for you as you have always been there for him, now you find out that this brother has slept with your wife who you cherish more than anything else in the world and that she died in his room trying to bed him, what would you do if you were betrayed in that way? Chances is he will be going for blood and revenge, I am sure that Ganni will put up some sort of fight even though he will probably only block blows and evade attacks, not wanting to fight a man whom he does think of a brother and out of regret for his relations with melitta.

Personally I wouldnt be sad to see Ganni have his life choked out of him slowly at the end of Oenomaus's whip pulled tight.

I don't know if that last part is necessary. The loss of Oenomaus' trust and friendship should be sufficient.

If Doctore finds out about Melitta, Gannicus can state that Lucretia and Varus made them do it. He does not have to tell about his feelings or his pursuit of her after.
