Disappointed with the discussions here
Whenever I watch a film nowadays, nearly always I will check the imdb boards afterward to see what other people had to say about it and I nearly always get a fresh perspective or insight in a scene, the film's message etc. I Just finished watching Mitt, and thought what a perfect film to be discussed on imdb. It largely stayed away from politics and focused on the man himself and what it like to run for president. It was filmed over 6 years and was interested in how it was put together, what access the film maker had, what people thought of the light the film paints Romney in etc. As someone from Britain, I have a bit of a hobby in following American politics and followed the debates closely. I knew American's are very passionate about politics and expected to see the usual back and forth from a couple users focussing on the politics that may I repeat again was largely left out. What did we get? just angry rants between the right and left (although reading through most it does seem mainly the right) calling each other idiots. Every topic is just filled with political rants that had nothing to do with the film. I understand it's still raw but the three most replied topics were just paragraphs of Romney's exact policies and how if you are cynical of the film or want to examine it deeper at all then you are an 'idiot lefty commie' (as one user put it)! Romney lost bad. This is a fact. What I found most interesting in the film is how cut off he and his family had become from this inevitability. I think the film showed the 'bubble' they were in quite well. Someone else had mentioned that they also found this interesting but of course they were bombarded by angry rants about how they were an idiot. Coming here to scream why Mitt should have won or what Obama is doing wrong is pointless. The 10 people that read your reply aren't going to have their opinions changed by a redneck getting angry over the internet.
TL;DR There are endless amounts of places to discuss in depth your political beliefs, but in a message board dedicated to film and film discussion, if someone wants to discuss A FILM and question it, don't get defensive.
