To Clarify... (spoilers)

This is what I got from the movie in a nut shell:

The dad was sexually molesting his daughter; the mother finds out and is understandably upset, but doesn't contact the police. The mother loses her mind and eventually ends up "wrapping her car around a tree". The daughter is upset about her mom dying, blames the father for causing her death and is upset about what he did to her.

Mom's vengeful spirit haunts the dad to keep him away from the daughter. Near the end of the movie the spirit hears the dad's lies while the doctor is interviewing him and goes berserk.

The scratches on the daughter's legs could be attributed to the dad molesting her even after the mom's death.

Notice how most of the paranormal activity is directed towards the dad: thrown through the glass door and thrown up against the wall etc etc.

What you guys think?

Now that u mention this, that makes total sense, I was a bit confused with the dad daughter relationship. I wasn't sure what to believe. Great point.

yes indeed a good point.

dad wasn't molesting his daughter
the family is haunted by evil spirits
but the investigation team, has a scientific explanation, for what's happening
they believe the daughter is suffering from a mental disorder that makes her aggressive with her father,

they also believe that she has some psychokinesis abilities which she uses unconsciously to hurt herself, in order to get her dad in trouble with the law bc she blames him for her mom's death.
so when they confronted the dad, he confessed to the role he played in his wife' death, and they thought mystery is solved

but we see a ghost at the end, which means the scientific explanation is false

The dad say that he sometimes needed to hirt himself to remember the mother... Which might be a hint that your theory is true and the mother was punishing her husband for the daughter. The other agreed upon theory seems logical as well. But there were several hints at the father not being a good dude opposed to him being a great father. Just a thought.

None of it was real. The movie was about actors creating a paranormal type movie. Very clever.
