horribly cheap and ugly. A giant leap backwards after ex machina. looks like a student fan-film.

Say it ain't so!!! I haven't seen anything at all related to this show. I was hoping it'd be awesome. I'd still be willing to drop some money on it just to see more Appleseed

Don't believe that person. I'm watching it right now on Dish (via Hulu). It's not bad at all. Not sure what type of "student fan film" he watches, but this looks pretty good to me. If you liked the first two Appleseed movies (the CGI versions), you'll like this one. http://www.hulu.com/appleseed-xiii

actually, don't entirely disregard him. This IS a step down from ExMachina.
If you're expecting something realistic looking, this is going to be jarring.
It seems more like a straight up cartoon.
With CGI elements. Far from the blockbuster ExMachina.
It's not bad, but is for Appleseed fans only pretty much.
I can't imagine anyone else finding much merit jumping into this as is.
I love everything appleseed. I have a copy of the old Appleseed VHS. The OVA from the 80's. And this new show ("new") appears to be more in line with the manga than anything to do with the past two movies.
So. Keep thy expectations in check, but don't discount it entirely either.

I'm looking forward to checking it out. I always wanted more after ex Machina.

im about to start episode 6 and enjoying it so far. its not a step down from the films... although the art style is very different... it does look cheaper but I don't think its a bad thing.

it does look like a mesh between the original manga and the film... deunan and briareos outfits are straight out of the manga as are some vehicle designs and aspects of briareos himself... but then its mixed with the environments from the recent films.

I like it. not as much as the first film but definetly on par if not a little more enjoyable than the 2nd.

the kottos episode was just amazing.

I have huge problems with this series, but it's not the animation or the production values.

Rather my problems lie with the characterization of Deunan and the plots/scripts, taking steep turns for the worse. This series makes Deunan out to be a emotionally challenged woman, behaving like a teenage self-centered and reckless brat with a craving for attention that Briarios, not exactly behaving like an adult himself, has a hard time coping with. Far from the strong, independent and capable woman she was pictured as in the first film.

The story seems crammed into the short time that is each episode and makes little sense as well as has a hard time keeping my interest.

I loved Appleseed (2004) and liked Ex Machina (2007) a lot. XIII is a big letdown, it ruins Deunans character and fails to keep my interest even for the short 20 minutes of an episode.

I wanna see this, but it seems the only way that'll happen is if I buy the boxset, which I'm not compelled to do as the reviews are only so-so.

This show was garbage. siderite's IMDB review is spot-on.

I feel bad for anyone that was amused by any of this poorly written, eye-rolling crap that looks like Playstation 2 graphics. Even the music blew. It sure didn't help that the first episode I saw on TV was Cretan Bull. Between this and Appleseed Alpha (another piece of crap but was at least visually impressive) this makes me think that Appleseed was never meant to be milked this much. Please end it now so it can at least die with a sliver of dignity remaining.

Japan tanked Deunan's character just as hard as they tanked Samus in "Metroid: Other M" and Aya in "3rd Birthday". 2010~2020 is starting to look like a decade of female characters being ruined while also being "compensated" by wearing less/tighter clothing (Deunan's "compensation" can be seen in Alpha). That's what the Japanese do best with games and animation: create great things and then run them into the ground later.

I don't understand people complaining about the "graphics". This was a TV-show; Appleseed: Ex Machina was a joint US/Japan/China BIG budget feature lenght film, with fight coreography by John Woo and lots of american Hollywood actors. Japan is struggling as it is with companies having enough money to produce any kind of animated series to begin with.
