Part of the problem in doing an accurate restoration is that today, we know far too much about paint colors, and it's too easy to make a paint color that "pops". In items made pre-1990, the paint colors are far more muted ... even more muted in 1960's and before.
I restore old bicycles, and the biggest problem is the tendency for the restoration to go "over the top" in a liberace (piano playing) sort of way, these things can come out looking too gaudy.
I was especially saddened when they did the toy steamroller and the red and green in that item was way over the top.
I wish they would show more techniques. It's very impressive that they can synthesize so many skills in one shop (metal fabrication paint refrigeration engine and simple electronics) and can also serve as general contractor to other shops (leather and fiberglass and water jet CNC). IMPRESSIVE !!! The biggest reason I like watching the show is to see the interplay of all these skills and the final result!
