New Season with New Cast

I just saw a commercial advertising a new season of American Restoration with an entirely new cast. Looks like it might actually focus mainly on restoration without all of the skit nonsense. Then again all these shows eventually all go the setup scenes route while getting further and further away from what they actually do.

reply

Not just a new cast, five new casts! The commercial said there are five teams of restorers.

reply

This is one of the teams, an also a museum that I really want to go to.

That guy already has a show What's in the Barn. Like all these shows it would be interesting but instead they fill it with stupidity

reply

Why not give the show a different name ?
Ricks Restoration will always be American Restoration.

Could've called this show ' The Restorers' or something like that.

I just saw that commercial too, and so far I've enjoyed the show as is...but without Rick and the other guys, I won't be watching it any longer.

Will Kelly's fake boobs still make an appearance?

reply

question is why didn't she parlay it into a Playboy photoshoot?

reply

This is Not American Restoration. If the network still wanted a show about restoring stuff they should have given it a new name instead of deceiving us. This has lowered my opinion of the network.

reply

american restoration wasn't about restoration either. it was about stupid unfunny scripted comdey skits and scripted unpleasant employee antics.

reply

Despite all the nonsense of the original series (shall we call this American Restoration 2.0?), there was some fun, and I liked the unique items that would show up. Like others have said, this new formula has been done ad nauseum. I'm done with it. :(

Looking forward to whatever RICK does next.

reply

You mean your opinion could actually go lower? Is there really any actual history being presented on the History Channel these days? It's all either reality show garbage or fake history shows. Some of it can be quite entertaining, but history it is not. History channel is as much about history as TLC is about learning.

reply

I saw this and deleted the first episode and then canceled the series for recording. I want only Rick and his son...they are American Restoration to me. Forget this change, i ain't having it. Goodbye American Restoration that was!

reply

If you are more interested in Rick and Tylers lives, than seeing stuff restored, then follow their twitters.

I welcome a show that actually shows the items being refurbished.

reply

There are millions of shows out there that restore/fix up classic cars/motorcycles (especially on Velocity channel). I liked the original American Restoration because they used to restore smaller and more unique stuff. I don't want American Restoration that spends 2/3 of the episode restoring a 1930s fire-truck - it was already done so many times.

2/3 of all the episodes were about the scripted "wackiness" of the cast, errrr employees and their zany antics. add in time for commercials and what was left was about 5-6 minutes of actually seeing how things are fixed. it was a garbage scripted sitcom just like everything else on the (not about) history channel.

reply

Wow, you are so full of crap. Are you a clone of lt by chance. If there was a show that showed everything about a restoration no one would watch it, or at least there wouldn't be enough to keep it online. Also, the show was mostly about the stuff coming in and the restoration.

reply

I lasted about 5 minutes before turning the channel.

A series like "New Yankee Workshop" can survive (and for 20 years, it did) without fake or semi-fake stories, and be about the work.

But if you are also going to make it about characters, then you better have interesting characters, even love-to-hate characters like Chumlee or Brettly.

But I found nothing interesting in this new version, however I didn't give it much of a chance. I'll probably try again, but am not hopeful. Perhaps having 5 teams will water it down so that we can never become attached to the characters. We'll see.

reply

I did think this was a new show. I mean its ok in all but I want the cast like it was before. Just make this in to another restoration show. It seemed there was more history about the item with Rick than now and I liked the goofy cast.

Same here. I've had my DVR set to record any new episodes for quite a while and was happy when I noticed one had been recorded - until I watched it. This was NOT what I was expecting at all, but then I don't really watch the "History" channel normally and hadn't seen any commercials about the new version. I was rather disappointed but gave it a try, but I'm not a car person and the new show seemed to be mostly about restoring cars (something Rick would never do.) I've checked it a couple times since, but it's still mostly about cars and I can't get interested in any of the cast. Meh.

Like others, I've been disappointed at the direction the original show took; I preferred the original formula showing more of how they did the restorations. I liked the cast and didn't mind a bit of the personal touch, but it got out of hand and they needed to go back to showing more of the process again. That I would have stayed with, happily.

(Side note: I actually thought Brettly had come a long way from the early episodes. He'll probably always be a bit of a goofball, but he was a lot more competent in the later seasons that he was initially. At least he learned to check the oil. lol)

So congratulations, "History" channel - I now have no reason at all to watch your network at all.

reply

I like the new version a lot better than the old "sitcom" one.
