Sounds a little bit like...

with the recent articles I've read about this film, it sounds a bit like Tim Burton's upcoming Dark Shadows , anyone agree?

Given Coppola's own descriptions of it, specifically his insistence that it "seemed to have the imagery of Hawthorne or Poe" and a "gothic romance setting", combined with real-life historical figures being used as characters, the project sounds like it might be reminiscent of Ken Russell's 1986 film Gothic; a horror film about "Shelleys' visit with Lord Byron in Villa Diodati by Lake Geneva, and the famous challenge to write a horror story, which ultimately led to Mary Shelley writing Frankenstein and John Polidori writing The Vampyre."

It also seems (from the snippets of early information at least) that it could have some similar elements to Coppola's earlier film Dementia 13. Either way I'm looking forward to finding out more about this project.

You can't compare Burton with Coppola yet, wether you think Coppola is declining or just evolving is independent to the fact that Tim Burton still is consistently interesting. I do think Burton might be wearing out about the weird kiddie fantasy genre already, but he could still make some different great projects, maybe similar in fashion to Ed Wood or Edward Scissorhands. As far as I'm concerned, Dark Shadows sound really interesting to me, and so does Twixt.

Dark Shadows centers around a vampire with witches, werewolves, zombies, warlocks and a young female ghost. Twixt is a gothic ghost story with a mystery plot. A real stretch to link the two. If you're not familiar with the original Dark Shadows TV series, the entire Twilight series ripped off Dark Shadows and rewrote it for a younger audience with younger characters.
