When the two guys are trapped in the basement, some guy shows up and pries open the flooring and starts threatening them. So why didn't they just shoot the guy and escape from the basement ?

shareYeah. Someone needs to show Henson what a gun is for. You don't have to egg the guy on to come down there so you can "kick his ass". Aim the boom stick and pull the trigger. It's pretty much the sole purpose of a gun.
shareI just watched this movie and I turned it on about 5 minutes before that scene so I was wondering the same exact thing. I actually came here to ask this very question or see if it had been discussed. I wasn't sure if I had missed something since I had missed much of the movie that would have explained why those two well armed dudes wouldn't just shoot those unarmed menacing, threatening cannibals lol
shareThe MO of the cannibals is to capture their prey alive and make them walk back to the camp, Adam knows this. If Henson were to start shooting, then the cannibals will be forced to retaliate and all the people in the basement are likely dead.
When the bell is blaring and the girls leave, Adam says something like "it's all up to them." The guys job is to stall and keep the the cannibals focused on them (without provoking a confrontation) while the girls try to take the scouts from behind.
Ultimately this ends up being a wise decision as by not getting in a shooting match with the cannibal scouts they have more bullets to defend the house during the main attack.
Not only should they have shot that guy, how stupid is that dude that was sitting there taunting them with a rifle sticking in his face? Of course he ended up getting shot anyway by Mary.
