Totally, it tries too hard on the melodramatic scale, and that mainly is why this is a poor movie.

A little schmalty and unrealistic, yes, but then so many movies are. If you want hard realism, don't see movies like this. I appreciated it for the larger themes of family and responsibility.

Super schmaltzy, but overall I found it fairly enjoyable.

I heard Delivery Man, the American remake, sends it schmaltzyness to the next level. I do like its gritty look and feel here.
