What about Raphael?

I think the one arguably loose end that was not tied up in the film was Raphael. David spent so much time with him, represented to others that he was his adoptive father and even whispered to Raphael that he was his real father, even though Raphael may not have understood it. I was expecting that David might in fact adopt him, of course, I'm not sure how that would make the other 532 kids feel. Then again, I'm not sure that David would have been able to care for Raphael's special needs or that Valerie would have been able to handle having a special needs child around the house while she was trying to start a famlily of her own with David.

It just seemed that Raphael was left out at the end and should have been included somehow.

Moreover, the 146 kids that David found out about were the ones who had petitioned the clinic to disclose his identity. David learned of Raphael because he was one of the 146. It does not appear that Raphael would have had the capacity to join the petition on his own, SO WHO PETITIONED ON RAPHAEL'S BEHALF?

I wondered that too.

I suspect Raphael's mother is his guardian and petitioned the clinic on his behalf.

"He killed sixteen Czechoslovakians. Guy was an interior decorator."

This was left hanging in the US version, too. But they did wrap it up - David told him he was the father, and he would be seeing him more often. But someone in his condition (in real life) could make the later scenes easily.
Interesting - It was the same actor in each movie.
