beyond boring

I am a gamer of the pac man era, and I love a good RPG, like skyrim, but I never got text advnetures, I tied a few back in 93, but I wanted graphics, full motion, which wasnt a reality in RPG till star wars KOTOR

so by GOD this documentary was boring as helll!!!

When you say "graphics, full motion" wasn't "a reality" until KOTOR you don't much sound like a gamer who's been around... No offense.

Your conclusion that the documentary is boring as a result is one I find a bit off. If it's bad, it's bad. But it should be able to be interesting regardless of the subject matter, if it's any good. That's what documentaries do best.

I'll see what I have to say after I've watched it. I don't like text adventures either, though I sort of wish I did (one of few gaming grounds I have not tread upon). Hopefully this spurs some interest.

EDIT: Just finished it. I'm a bit torn. Interested at times, not so much at others. But it was good. Lots of passion, which is what I seek. And it did actually make me start thinking about trying to create a game like this, so it spurred some interest (but to be fair, I have been itching to create my own games for about a decade, so I'm kind of scraping the barrel for anything doable). Not so much in playing the games, though... I saw a bunch of nostalgic guys defending their interests.

Sad story. You got a smoke?

Eh, you clearly weren't the target audience anyway. I enjoyed it.

If you're ever interested in exploring the genre again, try playing Photopia by Adam Cadre using the Glulx interpreter. It's incredible.

wow, that conversation is literally 4 years old...

my first game was prince of persia, played a lot of 8 bit games,

but it was when KOTOR came out that I felt that the full potential of an RPG has been realized, of course today we have witcher 3 and lot more,

I honestly don't remember this film at all anyway!

This ain't that Kinda movie!

Oh, you're one of those people that complain when old posts are replied to. I never understood that.

reply

As I said, I forgot bout this film, not complaining, just sating a fact.
are you one of those people who see everything as complains ?

reply

LOL no.

Prince of Persia was a great game. What system did you used to play it on?

reply

a 386, it had a floppy drive and no hard disk and maybe 4mb ram.
it had a monochrome monitor and I had NO clue that the game was in color!
I also remember the monitor had a switch which flips and the colors would invert !
and in build speakers which gave a weird midi playback...

those were the days!

now tech is all mundane and boring and 4 core, 8 core yada yada, at that time, every innovation seemed world changing...

like, and 2002 game (max payne) is NOT that different fro ma 2016 game, the graphics were worse, but its kind of comparable,

but imagine these text games we are on this board about and the first mist. what a huge upgrade!

That's funny, the first time I played Prince of Persia was on very similar (possibly the same) hardware. It was even a monochrome screen too!

I was very excited because I had won the game in a drawing at a computer trade show but we only had an Atari ST at home so I couldn't play it. So my Dad took me to his office on the weekend to play it and we were both blown away. Come to think of it, that was probably the first DOS game I ever played.

Great memories! I was probably about 8 years old at the time.

I agree though, I am way more into the "retro" stuff than the new stuff. As advanced as modern games and computers are, they just don't have the same appeal as the older systems and games did for me.
