Why was it cancelled in the U.S.?

I heard in the U.K it is about to go on its 6th season. Why were the ratings so low in the U.S? Granted, I watched this show and thought it was stupid. However, I did know that in the U.K it was quite popular.

I wonder what the different in the U.S. is?

too sensitive maybe?

While the puritanism and conservatism of U.S. viewers might have something to do with it, the main reason was just that the UK version was a better show overall -- better acting, better writing (most of the time), better direction. The U.S. version was just... not very good. The only reason I watched after the first two episodes was because I had seen the original and wanted to compare the two. Had I only seen the U.S. version, I would have stopped watching after Tea's episode. It was basically a slightly more raunchy Degrassi.

Have to agree with JohnnyLynx, the UK one is light years better than this pile of crap. Even though some of the newer seasons of the UK show arent nearly as good as the first two seasons, its nowhere near as bad as this. Every 2 seconds a sentence ended either with: "awesome, dude, man" or something else ridiculous.

The U.S. isn't too sensitive; yes, there were people who had a problem with the show, but it was one small, vocal group. However, all that did was get rid of some advertisers. The people that clashed against it didn't watch the show; teens did, and clearly they didn't like the show, which resulted in the large drop-offs in ratings. And it really wasn't a very good show; the acting was meh, the writing was quite awkward, and episodes were very sporadic in quality.

Because it sucked. Why watch a lame remake when you have the original.

Dude shows get cancelled because they suck. When a tv shows doesnt have an audience means people didnt like the show and thought it sucked, and that's what happened with US Skins.

are you being serious? "Sucking" is a matter of opinion. The popular opinion of the show's target audience will get it canceled. Barney is a kids show, kids don't think it sucks. I, and many other people, weren't so into King of the Hill... and look, it's gone!

reply

Because Barney's on public television, dumbass.

if so then how are 90210 and secret life still on the air?

because American parents are stupid. Stuff like this makes me kind of upset to be an American. Parents here feel the need to shelter their kids from seeing things like this on television, but this is actually the first show I've seen that takes a raw look at what it's like to be a teenager today. The British version is way better because there isn't as much censorship there I guess, but it was still a good try. Of course all these events don't happen to all the same people or all in the same school (since the British version rotates generations I assume the version here would have done the same), but the events depicted are legitimate things that occur to some teenager somewhere in America. Parents and a lot of other people here need to wake up and see that a show like this could actually be good for teens today.

I guess they thought it was "too racy" for television. Should have put it on Showtime or something. But the acting wasn't good, not even close. I'm thankful it was cancelled TBH.

well I read that it was teen parents that wanted it pulled due to the content. Maybe if the acting wasn't total crap the kids would have wanted to watch it. I find it odd that the show is fairly well received everywhere except the US.

Let's face it, not many people liked the show. When I go on Youtube & watch old promos for the show it has more dislikes than likes. Personally, I LOVED US Skins. I did. But I'm one of few. The acting just wasn't that great, and as someone who loves the show that is saying a lot. It was just completely dreadful at times. And plus the ever so lovely PTC got about half the sponsors to drop their ads during airtime so that didn't help.

the U.K version is better, the reason it didn't work in America is because were to Conservative.

i don't see how anyone can claim the writing is bad but like the uk version. the writing was almost the exact same except they switched out british slang for american. i don't see how anyone could take the uk version seriously, especially that drug dealer. oh yea, he looked really scary. i preferred the us version and at least i can understand them and every other word wasn't twat or wanker. and most of the uk cast were funny looking except for tony.

The show definitely improved and was actually good towards the second half. Anyone bashing the season completely either didn't watch it all, or is holding it to the high standards of the UK. If you were expecting it to be as good or even near the UK, you're retarded. All the controversy hurt.
