It was great until...(Spoilers)

The little girl takes de plane and flies to meet the little Prince. From that moment, everything completely fall out of context. It is a shame because I was enjoying it a lot but as a fan of that classic, just can't like that kind of distortion.

It went totally weird from that moment and lost me totally.

reply

I wouldn't have minded weird. It got generic and that's the worst thing you can do to one of the most creative stories of all times.

reply

Yeah it was weird.

Lose the Game!!!!!!!

Agreed. I really like Paul Rudd, so I was excited for him. But after she got the plane. I started to zone off. I will have to say, the fox was pretty funny.

I feel like everything from the point where she fell into the trees she blacked out and had a dream. I really liked this movie

Agreed. The comment I made to my husband (who hasn't read the book) was that seeing The Little Prince grown up and the rose die was a disrespectful kick in the pants to anyone who loves that story. The first hour is great though.

I agree, it strayed from something magical to something out of Hollywood.om glad the girl met the little prince but this was not with the spirit of the story

reply

Yeah; the third act of the movie was bizarre. It felt like a different movie. Decent movie, but they could have done so much better with the story direction in that regard.

reply

I agree

I adored the movie from start to finish. Agreed, the final act isn't quite as powerful as the first hour, but given that I've never been introduced to the original story, I didn't think anything was wrong with it.

Maybe just a difference between fans of the original story and those who aren't aware of it?

You had the advantage of approaching the story as something entirely new, and perhaps to see the story as that of the little girl, rather than the little prince.

I was prepared to absolutely hate the last part, but found myself surprisingly accepting of it. The dream felt like a suitable culmination of all her fears about growing up and having to come to terms with loss. He became her stand-in for what she feared becoming herself. It doesn't change anything about the ideal of the little prince, which I suppose is why he reverted back to a child in the end. But I think in doing so, the story loses something of the profundity of the little prince himself having to grow and mature enough to understand his love of his rose.

Overall, from the small snippets, I really wish they could have made the entire novel as a standalone movie or even a short.

You hit the nail on the head there. In the end, I wasn't as caught up in the story of the Little Prince so much as the little girl's journey to have a free, fun childhood.

I think that the original story could make a good film too, so I see why others are disappointed, and I'd like to see the standalone when it gets made.

And therefore, never worth revisiting? I couldn't really get into the other versions, the live action movie or the various tv series. If they worked for you, that's cool. I liked the charming style of the stop motion style in this recent movie, and found myself more invested in this version, so I would have liked to see the entirety of the novel done in such a manner.
