No wonder it's so bad...
it's a Canadian movie.
shareyeah outside of Quebec(french Canada) they're arent very good films being produced, the only two great Canadian films i can think of right now are Hobo With a Shotgun and You Might as Well Live
shareHobo With A Shotgun was terrible, and I'm a grindhouse fan!
Hufflepuff's are particularly good finders.

Not much of a fan...Hobo rocked.
shareSo, you mean that you actually liked seeing a movie where innocent people, homeless and a busload of children are killed ruthlessly and repeatedly through the entire movie?
How sane is that on a scale?
That really sent Rutger Hauer out of my list of respected actors.
What the hell happened to him between Blade Runner and this movie?
Welcome to the real world....death doesn't discriminate. I think you missed the whole point of the film. The film tries to exaggerate the violence but it still isn't far from what has been happening in crumbling cities around the world. If you can't see the less-than-subtle messages in the movie then you must have not understood most of the "grindhouse" movies you have seen.
shareLittle boy, movies are not real. They use actors and special effects to create the image of reality, but it's fake. There, now that you know Hobo isn't a documentary, don't you feel better?
Some people...
"No it's not you, I just don't like having dinner... with people..." - Paul Rudd
I know that, I know it's not real, it's fake and that this isn't a documentary...your attempt to produce condescending irony is weak, little wonder boy.
But do I enjoy watching that sort of selfmotivating violence, ehm no. Thought maybe I grown past that, but I wouldn't have enjoyed it when I was younger either, I'm sure of it.
There's no endgame in it, it's just pointless violence.
And believe me, I'm not that faint hearted or moralising type, I think I've got my fair share of the ugly movie stuff out there already.
Naw it was bad because everything was filmed at uninspiring flat angles, with inconsistent colorization between shots within the same scene, and no color grading whatsoever to improve it. The whole thing screamed amateur and student filmish. I applaud the effort though.
The film could have benefited from more camera movement - half of it was handheld and the other half was locked down tripod shots. The inconsistency was jarring. Get some dolly action going next time maybe?

How unbelievably judgmental. You must be a Christian.
shareHow unbelievably typical to blame loving Christians for ones own desire to suffer eternal damnation.
My God !! It's full of stars....share
how unbelievably moronic for christians to think they are loving.

Check out your favourite TV shows - 90% of them are made in Canada
They produce more quality than you think
Half Irish, Half German - hated by all. But at least I'm not Welsh
Exactly dave... and when US made a movie, they come in here like half of the time... cheap cost, good locations, plus Winter is cool and they don't really have one as big as here so yeap ! It's the place to make movies and tv-series !

canadian movies are no longer the standard for bad movies
there are plenty of movies which are horrible made in the US
hated hobo with a shotgun and i'm not a picky kind of guy
and open minded to everything as you can clearly see i write my opinion in this deserted movie ...
still i agree being made in canada is usually not a good sign and the movie being released in 2011 while it says 2012 is really a bad sign ,,,
Hobo could have been so much better... i think the main fault is on the choice of actors, except Rutger Hauer, no one really stand out and really looks dumb ! We should have a cool main ''bad'' guy such as Michael Madsen or Malcolm McDowell, someone that makes a good performance with almost nothing.. and it would have been tons of fun !!
Splice is canadian and is both original and awesome... well we have David Cronenberg, Denis Arcand, Podz, Atom Egoyan, Jean-Marc Vallée (Café de Flore, Victoria, Crazy), Vincenzo Natali (Cube, Splice), Robert Lepage, Norman Jewison (also sometimes) are canadian directors that made their film here and produced more good than bad movies !!
Plus, one of the greatest family in acting... the Sutherland's !! ;) James Cameron is canadian too ! :)
