Ok. So to partially answer my own question ...
SPOILERS
Victor was mentioned as the name of the guy who helped the priest arrange the fake marriages.
Apart from that brief mention, and then the bit at the very end, was there anywhere else in the movie where he was seen or discussed ???
Not that I noticed. I had to watch 40 mins of this again to find out who the hell he was.
