LES ADIEUX A LA REINE is more of a recount of events rather than an exploration. Luckily, Lea Seydoux and Diane Kruger's performances keep it watchable. If a person is a historical figure it's usually because they did something unforgettable, but that doesn't automatically mean their everyday lives are interesting. That's why you have to be careful when you choose who you want to make a biopic about. This case is worse, because MARIE ANTOINETTE is often associated with her whims rather than her contributions as a queen. Yes, SIDONIE LABORDE (her servant) is the actual protagonist, but the plot focuses on the relationship between the two.
