What about Amazon in the US or even the UK?? Nahhhhhhhhh :)

reply

Oh and out of 3 reviews on Amazon.de 2 people gave it *1* star out of 5 and the other 2 out of five.

I really do see a pattern forming here :)

reply

so do I.

We get it. You dont like the movie. So sod off and leave the boards to those who do, or at least those who have an original thought in their head

Erm, Dave - Piss off :)

This is a public forum and this has become my "most hated film of all time" due to 2 things.

1/ It is quite simply the worst film ever made.

2/ The director tried to defend this "spastic baby" of his and tried to get smart in the process, i have since made him look stupid.

So dave,it says at the top of the page the following -

"This board is reserved for discussions about: Famine (2011) (V)"

But you seem to think it's here for those who like it and maybe want to suck up to the director.

So my original thought for today would be "ExcrementDave doesn't understand what "This board is reserved for discussions about..." means and is just another dullard.

I cannot argue with you as you have every right to your opinion. You making me look stupid is up for debate because you baited me and I bit...which makes me look kind of stupid but again, you put it out there and I went for it. Anyways, I see you've found a new labour of love "BFM" lol...oh man, I cannot wait until you see this one. If you truly hate "Famine", which I don't have any doubt you do, your eyeballs will roll backwards and steam will shoot out of your ears while witnessing "Big *beep* Monster"!!!

reply

Hahaha, you have actually made me laugh out loud Sir with your level honest reply.

Let us put that unsightly little spat behind us and see if we can feel the love together on BFM/ALARMING.

How come the name change ?

Ok can i ask you a serious question?

How come you have moved into Directing when you were top of your game at make-up and effects?

You have set the standards in many iconic shows/film yet (i'm not having a cheap dig here) you films are not of the same high quality, i'm sure you understand where im coming from. Is it something you hope to improve on as you get more experience?

I don't want to see anyone fail - especially where film is concerned - i love sci-fi and horror films but where are you going with this?

reply

Makeup Effects is still in my blood and I do break out the brush from time to time. But I have a fetish for campy, gory cheese. I like to make these movies for myself mostly. But getting back to the transition from makeup fx to filmmaker, the advent of cgi and the reliance of producers to employ it moreso than practical fx earlier last decade, really put a dent into what was being done and who was doing it. I wasn't in Vancouver from the ground floor up, there was a couple of other fx designers that had built solid foundations and I was constantly bidding on jobs against those guys. In the end, I had a solid decade of fx work but my real focus switched up and I got into filmmaking...there's no real money in what I do, I provide an experience for all involved, mostly a good one. As to your observations, if you look at my body of work, you will see that technically we are improving. Content is up for debate but technically I am improving. I need to make bigger movies no doubt. Time will tell. But I do teach makeup fx as my real job :) That I will not be quitting anytime soon :) Cool.

I can see how your art has changed with cgi, the old and new school that's hitting everyone as technology progresses.

I hold my hands up and apologise for being an arse - yeah sure i have the right to say i don't like your film but i went to the extreme.

I've looked you up on the net and people speak highly of you and say you are a genuinely nice guy so i tip my cap to you.

I'm no film critic - i like Martin Lawrence movies :)

See you on the Forum for BFM ;)

PS - If you DO use the word "dullard" in one of your films i will buy the dvd and send you it and ask you to sign it and i'll have it framed and mounted in my studio. My contribution to the world of film :D

reply

I will use "dullard" in our new one, not on imdb yet but soon, "Cannibal Lipstick" and yes indeed I will send you a copy!! One Martin Lawrence movie that stands out is "Black Knight" :) In anycase, you are well versed and know movies, I am sure we could have a good chin wag on a ton of movies. What's some of your favorite 80's movies? Any genre...I grew up in that era.

reply

"Cannibal Lipstick" chuckles away...

Well i'm 44 so the 80's was my teen years and hence "the golden era" for me.

At the top of my list is without a doubt Ghostbusters - so mush to the point i have a half-sleave GB tattoo, an award-winning screen-accurate proton pack hanging on the wall of my cinema room and *beep* loads of GB stuff.

I'm a massive Trekkie, got all the autographs of ever bridge crew.

But classic 80s? Ok, i throw a few at ya -

Strips, Blazing saddles, Predator, Ferris Buller, Big Trouble In Little China, Tron, Aliens (oh and as much of a hard time as i gave you for "Famine", *beep* me if i could get hold of the people that produced the Alien Vs Predator movies you'd see me REALLY have a go at someone :)), BIG, almost any John Hughes esp Planes/Trains,Princess Bride (CLASSIC!), Treminator, Die Hard etc etc etc

And a special mention to Zombie - Dawn of the Dead. Got me into Zombiefy

Oh and Electric Dreams :)

Black Knight is such a guilty pleasure of mine - watch it whenever it's on the box. Oh and Blue Streak. martin and Will in the Bad Boys films, great chemistry and great writing

My biggest "WOW" film would have to be Gladiator, pure pure perfection from start to finish BUT me biggest "DUH!" film (apart from the AvP efforts) would be Promethius. Both films by Ridley Scott but on exact opposites of the scale.

Are you following Walking Dead? if so, what are you making of it?

"Ghostbusters" is a masterpiece! What is all the BS about part 3?! On and off again? Bill Murray has basically said no to any script he's been given? I miss Rick Moranis. It's as though his acting career ended way back for whatever reason. But moving on to your list...I must say, we have very similar tastes in movies. "Big Trouble in China" is classic fun. John Carpenter and Russell just having fun. It shows. Now "The Ward"?! What was that all about?!! Speaking of "Ghostbusters", I actually worked for Steve Johnson for sometime, he created "Slimer"!!! Now Ridley Scott, he is simply awesome! I really like "Black Rain"...I am a huge Michael Douglas fan from the days of "Streets of San Francisco". "Gladiator" is a masterpiece. As is "Blade Runner" and of course "Alien"...I kind of dug "Prometheous" but some of these classic directors seem to over use cgi and new technology to the point of it not being about the story anymore, moreso about the FX. "AvP" is a cheesefest...but "Predators" was far worse IMO. I may be one of the only ones that actually likes "Predator 2"...Gary Busey always steals the show for me. Now "The Walking Dead"...I loved the first Season...Frank Durabont really brought the show quality. They axed him for the second season and it showed. I have yet to watch the third season but from what I hear, things seem to be no better as far as matching the first season highs. I will check it out. That's awesome about your GB Tat! I have a few horror tats, mostly Italian horror. It takes a true fan to be that dedicated to the genre for sure! What about "Cabin in the Woods"? Did you see it? Fan of any remakes??
