contempt

I thought it was great when he said he never has contempt for a horse (although he did call the palominio colt a "son of a bitch" before that!) I wish more people who deal with horses would feel that way, but some of them are too into the "having Power Mode," or are at the other extreme and are too much "oh, you poor poor thing, you'll never be able to function properly, will you?" which is a subtler kind of contempt for who the horse is, and what it's capable of.
Respecting the horse even when it isn't doing what we want is so important. You can correct a horse without condescending to it or holding it in contempt.
