This guy got his lines from another movie

**EDIT** Now I know why it all seemed so familiar:
http://blogs.orlandosentinel.com/entertainment_movies_blog/2011/06/mov ie-review-buck.html
Which leaves me with the question: why did they choose now to make this documentary? It's been a while since Redford consulted Buck for The Horse Whisperer, which I saw as a small kid.

People who comment on movies they have not seen on the basis of what they think of a trailer or a newspaper ad are so valuable. I am just so glad that there are people in the world who have nothing, I mean nothing, of value to say on any topic, but who, like maverick494, say it anyway. What a treat to see his (somehow I know the writer is a boy, I just know it) opinions, ill-informed, ill-considered, ill-expressed.

When you go out of your way to express your bitterness and make assumptions about me that aren't based on anything whatsoever, it says more about you than me.

Next time you spot a post that strikes you the wrong way from the first letter, press the ignore button. It's there for a reason.

Have a good day sir if they exist in your world, that is.

This guy didnt get his lines from another movie....the other movie "The Horse Whisperer" was made about this real life horse trainer. His work is unmatched by anyone . Thats why the movie was made ABOUT HIM. Robert Redford spoke those lines because those were Buck's words. He is the one who made that phrase! Get it ? This is a documentary....REAL LIFE.

Well put, jwill, but I doubt that poor Maverick will "get it" or get anything else, ever.

Haha you big slime. Yet you can't seem to come up with an appropriate reply to my post. In fact, you have not contributed anything useful at all so far, which makes you worse than what you consider me to be.

reply

No need to get snippy with me. I posted the link with that information in the **EDIT** section of that post once I found out. I was 7 when I saw that movie, so excuse me for not remembering exactly where Robert Redford drew his inspiration from. It just seemed so strange seeing a documentary trailer full of deja-vu moments. Anyway, was there a reason he waited so long to make it? Wouldn't this doc have profited better with some of the buzz from the movie still being in effect?

reply

As jillwill says, The Horse Whisper was inspired by Buck, who was also a consultant for the film.

"I'd never ask you to trust me. It's the cry of a guilty soul."

Thank you for being the only one who gave an answer without adding condescending remarks.

Just so's you know Maverick, your Edit now leads to a dead link: "Sorry, but you are looking for something that isn't here." If you haven't seen BUCK, check it out. Not only is it about the man who advised Redford on THE HORSE WHISPERER, it also touches briefly on Buck's own mentor, and on that guy's mentor.

Would BUCK have made more $$ if it was made/released closer to THE HORSE WHISPERER? Maybe, maybe not. When you see this fella's story though ... it's rough. He shares some hard and personal moments in here that he might have not been ready to talk about 15 years ago. One of the many great things we learn in this story is that Buck was not made overnight. A lot of work on his part, and his foster parents, and his family's part made him the heart, mind and soul that can do what he does with horses. It may have taken this long for him to be ready to discuss that work. It may also have taken this long for a documentary director to be interested enough to pursue Buck's story.

Enjoyed your comments and agree. I have known Buck for 16 years. He was a paid technical advisor on Redford's film, a body double and his horse, Pet, was used in a shot as explained in "Buck." I believe he told Redford he might be able make a living starting horses "if that acting thing did not work out." Buck's comments did not indicate that he wanted to be Redford.

Buck credits Ray Hunt as a mentor. Always has. Ray Hunt always talked about what he learned from his friend, Tom Dorrance. They used to say Buck was like Luke Skywalker, Ray like Obi Wan and Tom like Yoda. Tom and Ray have passed away. Why make this movie now? Maybe, to get the story told right. Just a feeling. Nothing like seeing hands on. Wish there was more footage of work with horses... The film just shows seconds of it. It is a craft.

Want to thank the producers and film makers who ventured the capital on this indie film biopic, hoping that there were enough people in the US that still care about family, overcoming setbacks, learning to communicate compassionately with other living creatures, and are not afraid to tell it like it is.

Thanks Rocking DH, for reminding me of Mr. Hunt and Mr. Dorrance's names, and for sharing your insight from years of knowing Buck! Thanks also for the Star Wars analogy. I'm a big nerd so that makes complete sense to me, but it's also hilarious, because I would have figured they'd pick something tougher (or less nerdy) sounding to be compared to ... football coaches or something. Hearing that folks think of Buck like Luke makes me like him even more!

I agree about more footage with horses. Hopefully when its released on DVD they'll be able to put in more of that as a side feature for fans who want to see more.

Excellent statement 'theLunchMovie'... we just saw it today (after friends, who actually met Buck) recommended the movie...
We both agreed that this was one of the BEST MOVIES ever...

Most documentaries don't make money. They are mostly made by people who really believe in a subject. A lot have to scrap their own money together because financing is almost non existant unless your Michael Moore.

Anyway, this is not a movie. Its a documentary in which Robert Redford has two scenes. In them he tells how his movie was helped and influenced by Buck. But he did not make this documentary.

I don't understand the nonsense about Hallmark card movies. Some of Redford's movies like Lions for Lambs (war in Afghanistan), Ordinary People, and A River Runs Through It are top quality with complex and dark human emotions.

What have you ever done?
