Hilariously bad

this was frikkin' hilarious. i actually laughed out loud. yes, i lol'd for real. and not where any of the terrible one liners were. you know, if they went to so much trouble and care to make this look so good, you would think they would have more of an effort over the script. terribly inconsistent and contrived rubbish. i love the games but the movies, live and cgi are real stinkers.

should i be expecting more from films like this? maybe not, but it really seems they put story and dialogue way down the list of importance. just because a film is cgi, doesn't mean it should all be about the visuals. look at pixar and their commitment to story. still waiting for "adult" cgi film to be in the same class as the kiddies get, but it seems their isn't a great deal of creativity and talent when it comes to non-fairytale animated films.

Agreed. This franchise need to die, both the movies and video games.

Agreed I could careless what some nameless faceless stranger thinks or likes or dislikes. I like it and so do the majority of the Resident Evil game enthusiasts and that's all that matters. They have their opinion and so do I. I love Capcom's CGI films the best. Their a thousand times better than those live action Milla Jokeabitch jokes she keeps doing...Guess shes one of the next B movie queens LOL!

I mean why do they even waste their time to even complain on something they hate? Talk about a bunch of losers. Their in a very small minority of haters regarding the Resident Evil franchise. Guess their too scared to play or too hard maybe. Can't be that their busy surgeons as they seem to love dumping on movies and games. My fiance is in his residency he plays on whatever short break he has and I'm in my 4th year of med school and I still (not as I would like to these days )have time to play RE its my favorite survival horror game series and is universally known as the grandfather of the genre and no game has yet to top it. Again I love the CGI films and hope to see much much more. Same goes for the games. Haters can hate but no one listens. :D

what I hate about your post is that if this was live action and if you replaced leon with alice...

then YOU and people like you would hate it. you would think this is stupid. you would say the plot is stupid. you would hate it, you would totally hate it

the action in here was similar to the live movies and the plot was just as stupid.

but you defend this movie because of Leon and you defend it because of the cgi. the only reason people love it is because it is cgi...

Capcom has never been known for the intricacy of their writing.

The dialogue came off exactly like one of the games which makes me think the story was originally written & performed in Japanese and translated over. Don't think I need to tell you how badly things suffer from translating either.

Like every Japanese thing ever though I wonder if the original has the same somewhat wooden dialogue.

The exception is DMC3? XD But even that one is kind of weak in well... actual non-Capcom standards. For the sake of everyone's sanity people should learn to turn off their brains when watching movies like these. Yeah, it was bad, yeah, I lol'ed too at some things because it was so bad and yeah, I liked it anyway for the same reason I like Barb Wire that is also a really bad movie to the point it actually becomes quite entertaining.

It's quick and cheap entertainment and I honestly think it delivers, even to non-RE fans like myself. I'm just more of a video game fan and I enjoy watching CGI movies for the same reason I enjoy watching anime because you can do things in CGI movies you cannot do with live action, especially action-wise. I really wish the West would open up their eyes and see the awesomeness that is animated Eastern action already, and I don't just mean Dragonball.

Also for the record, maybe it's just be but to the OP, I don't think every Pixar movie or anything else for the matter is that good at all. Shrek was for example largely unmemorable to me and the only thing I like about Ice Age is the squirrel. People should stop overrate Pixar and similar studios so much. The fact that it's also for children makes it degrading alone as it clearly lacks the same magic Hayao Miyazaki's movies do anyway that are also for children. A movie like Tonari no Totoro has no age limit but I do think many Western movies for children honestly do because over here there is a different mindset of what a child is and this affects the writing to such a degree that I personally find it hard to enjoy anything aimed towards children that is a Western product. But hey, maybe that's just me.

Yeah, when I was watching the mouth movement during the conversation between Ada and Svetlana and the movement didn't match what they said on screen at all and could have been Japanese but there are no credited Japanese VAs in the credits so I am not sure. Could just be sloppy animation or the VAs not nailing the timing of their lines but that seems odd to, to me, as I found both Ada's and Svetlana's VAs pretty good.

So I honestly don't know about that one. Could go either way there.

Everything (including the English dialogue) was done using the mocap actors. So, yeah, I guess the voice actors just didn't nail it.

I don't think you even understand the capcom series or what made it the series it is today. I will gladly say the live action movies are absolutely garbage and the newer games have taken a direction that I wouldn't of approved, but the "terrible one liners" are what made this game. Nobody cared about the dialogue in the games because that is what was so great. "you were almost a jill sandwich". I mean come on, who the hell says that? I bet you are a person who started playing RE at RE4 and haven't really payed attention to the RE series before then. As a fan who has been playing RE since the first game came out, I can safely say that I enjoyed this movie. I chuckled at the one liners, but in a good way. In a way that made me think of the old re games and how big of a fan I was/am. I honestly want to see what movies you like and what rating you give them. Go ahead, what are you a batman fan?

reply

I actually liked this movie, of course I've been an RE fan from the beginning so maybe I'm biased, but I do think the live action movies (aside from the first which was ok) have been complete crap and I didn't love RE 4 or 5 and think 6 will be decent at best (outside of Leon's campaign which seems very good), so I don't just give a free pass to this franchise either. Like ajvkorn2006 stated, this series has been enjoyable partly because of how cheesy it is at times.

And whoever said this series should just die already? That's a bit harsh, I don't love it like I used to but it still has its moments and just because you don't like something doesn't mean it should cease to exist. If you don't care for the franchise anymore don't play the games, don't watch the movies. That simple. I couldn't care less about Final Fantasy so I avoid it, that said I don't think it should go away because there are clearly plenty of others who do love it.

reply

jesus christ. calm the *beep* down. what is the matter with you people? it's not like i just raped your mother or something.

i've been with this series from day one. it's the only franchise i still play as i'm nearly 40 and computer games have taken a back seat but the fond memories of this series mean i still order every RE game that they make. i'm looking forward to RE6. i'm not a fan of the whole 'las plagus' thing and wish they'd return to raccoon city and traditional zombies.

my point was this ISNT a game or just a cut away scene. it's a stand alone movie and when you step up to the movie league, the film should be so much more. if anything, a cgi RE movie should be far superior to a live action one as cgi is where this story has it's roots. so imagine if you will a cgi RE film with a brilliant script and dialogue to rival anything pixar can produce. i want a brilliant RE movie that will thrill me and frighten me the way this franchise did 16 years ago.

I really do think that there should be some sort of japanese-american collaboration with the story writing process.

The resident evil game series is just as convoluted as the cgi movies, you just forgive them because you get to play a good game.

The plot is convoluted and contains plot and character tropes, the characters are often hilariously exaggerated (to westerners) stereotypes of other cultures, the dialogue does not convey the original context.
Rehashed stereotypes are an accepted form of character development in Japanese entertainment.

What's worse? A bad stereotype of a Russian guy with Japanese speech and behavior patterns who worships American culture or a Russian guy who is the equivalent of a Japanese character trope "tough guy who just wants to do the right thing". And his nickname is Buddy. His character arc is hilariously bad and sappy; a poor attempt at typical Japanese melodrama.

But it's all in good fun. And it still 1000 times better than the live action American movies.

Think about all the corny lines Leon has in the game. They're often comparable to horrible one-liners in bad action movies of the 80's.

@gortsamia:
For someone claiming to not care about his opinion it does seem to make you exceptionally angry...

@everyone else:
I personally turned the movie off after 10 minutes. I can't stand stupid one-liners. I grew up with RE and arguing that the one-liners and silly story is what made RE great is bs, the scary atmosphere and gameplay (and zombies obviously..) is what made RE great, despite the dialog and story, not because of it. Something Capcom seems to have forgotten....

reply

This movie had like three one-liners in total, and this movie had a better story than ay game made after Code: Veronica.

I cant stand the live action movies, they are simply zombie movies with the name RE slapped on to gain more attention.

However, this and the first cgi I thought were both good. The fact is Ill watch or play anything with Leon because he is my favorite character, but that aside at least the cgi movies are faithful to the games.
