Wilhelm Dinesen was presumably supposed a relative of Karen Blixen (nee Dinesen), who gave Severin's family the sabre. As Karen's father was called Adolph Wilhelm, I wondered if this had any basis in fact?

The historian and author Tom Buk-Swienty, whose books about the 1864 war were the main inspiration for the manuscript, subsequently published a two-volume biography of "Captain Dinesen".
