A Hearth's Warming Tail - Discussion

I'm surprised they did a Christmas episode in May. All the same, I thought it was a good episode. I liked how it spoofed A Christmas Carol.

Strange to have a Christmas episode now, but I loved it none the less. It was great how everyone was dressing up as the players, EVEN THE BACKGROUND PONIES.  Did you catch Doctor Whooves dressed up as the second Doctor from The Power of the Daleks? That was a very fun episode that I see great rewatch potential in. Best so far this season! The Combination of A Christmas Carol and How the Grinch Stole Christmas was a hoot! I loved how they just exploded into a musical sequence in the beginning like they have since Magical Mystery Cure for their Musical episodes. It is as if they are saying "it is a musical episode, if you don't like it lump it!" I have to say I did not see it coming that Princess Luna would be the Spirit of Hearth's Warming Yet to Come. Excellent use of the commercial breaks with Spike leaving to get more cocoa or something similar happening.

On a technical note, I see Josh Haber is still story editor. Michael Vogel Vice President of Development for Hasbro had his first(non short) writing credit here.

It was pretty good. A tad out of season, because they start their seasons in like March ever since one of the seasons was delayed for forever (was it Season 4? Or Season 5? Think it might've been both...)

I liked Pinkie Pie and Princess Luna the best in this, and also, I liked Luna's song the best. In fact, none of the songs particularly annoyed me in this one, which is uncharacteristic. Although I feel like they tried to tell too much story through song, and that doesn't really work for me; makes it feel rushed, like they're trying to do points of character development in a few lines of lyrics. Then again, they only have a half hour to tell their story, so...

Starlight's Heart's Warming Carol expy (forget the character's name) also proved to me that I like her much better as a villainess. I think I'm just not a huge fan of all the villains either seeming to a. be defeated forever, or b. having a heel-face turn. Discord is the only one where this really works for me, because he's still got that chaotic temperament to him, and willing to send a pony to another dimension so that he can have Fluttershy's undivided attention.
