Question about the MLP Movie in 2017

With the MLP Movie coming out in 2017, there's something that bugs me about it.

Are some of the main characters or fan favorite characters are going to get killed off and be replaced by new characters for a new season after the movie?

I mean, look back at Transformers 1986: A lot of characters from Seasons 1 and 2 were killed off and were replaced by new characters for Season 3 and 4. Some of those characters were fan favorites like Optimus Prime, Iron Hide, StarScream, Brawn, and among others. Originally, Optimus Prime was meant to be injured and make a return in the series and that Duke from G.I. Joe was supposed to die in the G.I. Joe movie. However, that changed. Duke lived and Prime dies.

So what do you guys think? Do you really think that would happen?

No. MLP will not get any closer to death than Tanks For The Memories

My Little Pony has already gotten closer to death than that. Ever since G1 (80s MLP) characters have died (albeit, bad guys), and while episodes don't usually mention death outright, it's pretty clear to me that death does exist in the pony universe. Even without the "couldn't you just simply die" in Art of the Dress.

It's My Little Pony, do you really think after the backlash Hasbro received when they made children cry over the death of Optimus Prime they're going to kill off characters in a little girls cartoon?

Transformers is aimed at a slightly older crowd. So character deaths are a bit more flexible there. But I doubt Friendship Is Magic would kill off a character permanently. The most I could see happening is one of them appearing to die for a moment and then turn up alright.

A fanmade MLP:FiM movie that follows a similar plot to The Transformers: The Movie would be awesome.

Cynicism is easy.

reply

They MIGHT kill whoever the villain in the film turns out to be, however it won't be anything graphic.

reply

A fanmade MLP movie might indeed be similar to the cartoon Transformers movie from the 80's... in that it'd be a critical and financial failure and piss off everyone.

Oh, you didn't mean it that way?

Well, next time pick a better Hasbro movie! Like... uhm... huh. Can't actually think of a good one. ;D

reply

I doubt anyone of importance will die. Yes, death obviously exists in the Pony world, as they have brought it up before. Apple Jack's parents are deceased, for example. However, a movie is traditionally the way they tie up any loose ends when a show is over. Think about it. It's been a good run. Why now bow out while your hot, rather than draw it out until everyone hates you?

reply

That's my gut feeling. They won't kill of any of the show's main or recurring characters. After all, this isn't Game of Thrones (sorry if I'm exaggerating). Plus I imagine, given that the film is due in 2017, seven years after the show premiered, they might be on the verge of giving the show closure by the time the film comes out. I'm only guessing though.

I dunno. Killing off Twilight in a "Game of Pones" type manner would actually be an interesting concept...

Interesting...

But not going to happen.

reply

Not necessarily. Given the popularity of the Equestria Girls movies, I think they are just capitalizing on that to make some more bucks.

I hope the writing is still up to snuff for more episodes of the series.

reply

Well, I got an advance copy of the script, and can tell you that, YES! It is all very dark, starting with Spike growing up and finally geting together with Rarity. Only to then have most of the mane six oppose their marriage, resulting in Spike savagely eating those who stand in the way of his love as the two go on a spree ala Bonnie and Clyde. Celestia gives into her true feelings of chaos and together with Discord start a war against Luna who must become Nightmare Moon again to defeat her tyrant sister Celestia. The film will end with a new mane six lead by a goth punk, an exotic dancer, a politician, a homicide detective, an investment banker, and a general of The New Lunar Republic. It will be the start of a new adult version of the show that....

Naahhh, I'm just joshing. I doubt that Hasbro would ever allow something like killing any of their main characters off in anything not targeting teens to adults after the whole Prime Gate in The Transformers Movie. Look at Transformers Prime, they couldn't keep Megatron or Optimus dead for more than an episode worth. Sure, they did in other characters, but never main ones. So no.

reply

Oh they're all going to get killed off in a completely cold, sadistic fashion by the over-the-top super villain Lord Hitler Satanmort and be replaced by a team of emos who must use the power of angst and Nine-Inch Nails music to depress the villain into suicide... which will also be graphic and take half the movie.

So much blood and gore... even an anime character doesn't have that much blood! We're talking blood tsunami here! All of Equestria drowns beneath the oceans of blood from the villain!

It'll be rated NC-17 for graphic sex and violence and "End of Evangelion"-level WTF.

(breaks out laughing) XD

Seriously, though, you expect this movie to contain the death of ANY characters? Seriously?!

I personally would not mind My Little Pony getting TV-MA treatment and either airing on HBO, Adult Swim or Comedy Central and being like a mixture of South Park and Family Guy.

AC/DC and My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic fan

reply

Uh huh... you still think Seth Mc Farlane is funny, don't you?

reply

Not only would I mind MLP getting South Park or Family Guy treatment, MLP could also play out like Ren and Stimpy or Rocko's Modern Life or even The Simpsons or King of the Hill or maybe The Flintstones (which was originally an adult cartoon but nowadays is marketed towards children.) MLP with a touch of Seinfeld or Cheers would be cool. I know it would never happen, but like I said, an adult oriented MLP cartoon would be cool.

reply

Uh-huh...

Somehow you've forgotten that the show being what it was is what made it popular, not because it tried to copy something else.

reply

In my humble opinion, Seth MacFarlane, Matt Stone, Trey Parker and Mike Judge are all funny. IMHO, if you want someone who isn't funny, look no further than Doug Walker/Nostalgia Critc.

AC/DC are Bronies

Technically, one character in the show has been killed off. Remember King Sombra in the Season 3 premiere? He was pretty much vaporized.
