Sunset Shimmer

I am curious what other people think happened to/where is the Human World Sunset Shimmer.

My own personal theory is that she died around the time pony Sunset Shimmer arrived, and her parents took the Pony Sunset Shimmer in. A chance to have their daughter back if you will. Canterlot High must be a private school if they have those inter-school competitions we see in Friendship Games, so who pays for her tuition if not them?

What are your theories about the human Sunset Shimmer?

reply

Well Starlight Glimmer thus far does not seem to have a human counterpart in Equestria Girls but maybe that could change. Fluttershy's family could've appeared in Legend of Everfree but they did not. I can see why Discord isn't in Equestria Girls because I can't picture his character being depicted as a human. Only time will hopefully tell what happened to the Sunset Shimmer from the human world.

First I think you are thinking too deeply about the dynamics of this world. The Sunset Shimmer of the EG world could live in another state or even another country. Maybe there isn't a one for one relationship between ponies and humans. We know there isn't a perfect relationship because Scitwi has bad eyesight and Twilight doesn't. If EG humans have normal human lifespans, then Luna could not have been stuck on the moon for thousands of years. Luna and Celestia would have been born during the middle ages or something. How are they the principals of the school? Maybe in the EG world there are only two schools.

All this and everything Chris mentioned in his original post makes me wonder how the half hour Equestria Girls TV specials will play out. It would make perfect sense if Starlight Glimmer appeared in Equestria Girls if you ask me.

I know the worlds tie up weird, I just wanted other people's theories on what happened to her, or where she is.

I think the writers never figured that out... or ever really put much thought into it.

Not everything in a show necessarily has an in-world basis, for the simple reason that writers make mistakes in their continuity if they're not paying serious attention to it.

I don't think that you're overanalyzing; it irritates me every time my daughter and I watch the Equestria Girls movies. If I could just know where her human counterpart is, I wouldn't dwell on it. Just a simple answer on the writers' part would suffice, rather than so many fan theories.

That is pretty dark. I am not sure I would want that to be true though.

The idea of kids not being able to handle death(past or present) in a children's show is ludicrous though. We saw The Transformers movie and loved it even though Optimus Prime died. It might make kids sad, but if you do it right, the show can still prosper from a narrative point, and keep them watching. Cardcaptor Sakura had her mother dead from episode one, and her ghost even visited them on a few occasions. The target audience in Japan handled that just fine. I think Sunset Shimmer murdering her other self would be stretching it though.

Thanks for the response. It is nice to see someone presenting their own ideas about where she is as I originally mentioned. I was beginning to wonder if someone would posit their own theory as I asked.

I don't think it's that children can't handle death, but they don't want it to be that kind of show. Even at its darkest the show is fun, light-hearted and colorful.

As fan theories the human sunset death/killed scenerio is fun, but it doesn't fit the style of the show.

In The Lion King, Mufasa's dead body was depicted so I agree that children can handle death. Death in My Little Pony would not be too far fetched.

Unlike Multiplicity, an adult comedy(thus not light hearted and decidedly dark), where the clones of the main character all live happily ever after owning their own business away from the original. My Little Pony however, has a light hearted episode in which Pinkie Pie makes clones of herself which are obliterated from all existence by Twilight Sparkle because once given life, these abominations must be destroyed and whomever is left of the many Pinkies is the one they want. You know, fun and light hearted entertainment for kids.

My statement was about the fact death COULD be handled in the show if done right. I have never asserted that having Sunset Shimmer's double be killed is what they should do, or is what I want them to do. Applejack's parents though, are another story.

I would never suggest having Sunset Shimmer's doppelganger explained as being dead in cannon. That but was simply my conjecture. If you want an alternative, my friend thinks the human version simply ran away from home and her family took her pony version in. That would fit the general tone of the Equestria Girls movies and address the issue of her double. Incidentally, this is the explanation I would prefer the movies officially take up.
