Wait... Is Kate related to Peter Robinson?

Why do I get so confused watching, (and reading) about Jackson Brodie and Inspector Banks.
Are they twins separated at birth? The two of them could inter swap and one would not know, not that it matters.
I rather enjoyed the tv stories more than the novels of both actually. but in the novels I just didn't like the main character.
