Just bought this on dvd, forgot how great it was, another series would be great.

Around the time this was on there was another British detective series, female lead I think, maybe had ACCENT in the title?

found it CASE SENSITIVE.

Your thread title suggested that you wanted suggestions for similar series; I see now that you don't, but I'm leaving this post in case others read it the same way. Cheers.

If you're looking for extremely well-written, somewhat tense detective series (which is what I think CH was), try
- Sherlock (2010)
- Inspector George Gently (2007)

I also really liked
- Lewis (2007)
- The Inspector Lynley Mysteries (2001)
- Foyle's War (2002)
- Inspector Morse (1987)
.................Each is very good and is worth watching, but they're a little less atmospheric than CH, S, and IGG.

thanks for the reply anyway.
After I had posted I the name of the series popped into my head.
I meant detective series that were on about the same time.

I am a fan of all the series you mention although I think MORSE/LEWIS are not as good as most people think.

I would add GRANCHESTER and JERICHO which is a 1950s set crime thing from a few years ago.
I also liked HUNTER and 5 days.

Are you British or American?

I am British but when I tried to buy CASE SENSITIVE on dvd the shop people looked at me as if I was mad (we are all meant to watch AMERICAN shows all the time).

Anyway I went to Belgium on holiday and there were shops full of BBC detective series on dvd, seems BBC DETECTIVE shows are huge in BELGIUM/NETHERLANDS/GERMANY.

So I bought some and now I have a sore back from carrying them around Europe.

I'm watching a Jesse Stone (Tom Selleck) episode on TV now. It has a noir vibe like Case Histories. Both have main characters that are flawed but decent men.

reply

Don't think that is on in the UK yet, will check it out thanks.

reply

I think the female detective that you are on about is Vera.

reply

thanks but the series was called CASE SENSITIVE.
I don't like VERA,I don't expect a fashion show but nobody would really dress as badly as that.

You could try Broadchurch,at least you will get the Scottish accent. Seriously, that one is really good drama- and characterwise.

reply

New Tricks is very similar, by opening cases that were never solved. Great, long-running British series.
