The show has its moments....

but I can't help but feel that it always falls apart when Zach finally attempts his idea for the episode. The scenes get so ridiculous and his character is so incredibly stupid that it just becomes painful to watch. It's like Bo watched It's Always Sunny and decided to put all the main characters together and then managed to make them even more unlikeable. It works sometimes for me, like the part in the Chef episode where his brother tries talking to him and he bursts out with "SHUT THE *beep* UP" but then when it got to the scene with him cooking in front of the book club he was simply way too stupid and cocky to be funny. I think comedy has to be at least somewhat grounded for it to work and this show takes it a bit too far. Any thoughts? I don't mean to bash the show, there's lots of parts I find funny but it seems like sometimes it tries too hard.

I like this show alright, but it's definitely NO 'It's Always Sunny...' that's for sure. But you may be right. All the obnoxious personal traits in 'Sunny' work very well with the four, or five, individual characters. But to combine ALL those traits into a single individual, like Zach Stone, might indeed be a bit too much to take. I obviously have no idea if Burnham has been influenced at all by 'Sunny', but it's certainly no stretch to imagine that he very well might be. He seems to go for the same type of non-PC humor on his show, though he doesn't push it anywhere near as far, or funny, as the guys in 'Sunny' do.

Yeah, I have to agree. I just finished the 3rd episode and I can't get into it. What I like about Bo Burnham is that he is so intelligent, witty, and insightful. I love his YouTube stuff and his standup can be scathing. But so far on this show, his character is so dimwitted and unlikable, I can't relate to his character. I get what he is trying to do....but it is almost like he is the wrong comedian for the part. There are moments where I see flashes of his true talent...especially in his impromptu deliveries...but most of the time, the show just feels too restrictive and scripted. I get that Burnham is parodying the personality traits of people that he normally pokes fun at. But by mimicking those traits, he loses all the wit he normally has when he is directly commenting on them.
