Confused About the Early Disco Scene (SPOILERS)

OK, at the disco some type of combine apparatus descends from the ceiling and shreds about one hundred or so people. Not to mention a lot of other folks have also disappeared/died at the locale. Seems with all those missing people cops would be able to figure out many of them were last thought to be at the disco. Arkin had also told his story to the police after his escape yet the cops seem to know nothing until Arkin has to shoot a bum keeping warm on a garbage fire thus drawing some attention to the torture/killing disco. I realize the plot has more holes than an acre of Swiss cheese but this bothered me.

The nightclub and the abandoned hotel (The Collector's lair) were two different locations.

He is a mass murderer but I guess since he didn't carry a bunch of guns into school it was ok to slaughter hundreds at a nightclub.

It wasn't a "Disco", it was a rave; raves are at secret locations and always different, so not too many people, except the ones invited would know anything about it. (I know this and I'm OLD!) I believe it was at the same abandoned hotel, just a different area of it, like the backside, because Arkin knew all around how maze-like and booby-trapped it was. I could be wrong about that part though.

The rave was not at the abandoned hotel.

Well, no. The TV reports said that this killer had been at it a long time and that he seems to take one victim from each crime scene. At least 50 people have gone missing that way. His hideout was the abandoned hotel. But, it seemed like there were parts from a lot more than 50 bodies in there.

Arkin was kidnapped from the scene of the killer's most recent crime (of which we were given no details). In a new twist, the killer brought Arkin to the scene of his next crime, at the nightclub.

He apparently intended to let Arkin go since he left him in an unlocked trunk in an unlocked room.

After the slaughter at the nightclub, he grabbed the girl, threw her in a trunk, and drove her back to his hideout at the hotel.

The hotel was in the seediest part or town where the cops don't dare enter. You'd have to shoot someone before they'd come near the area. So, that's what Arkin did.

Did you watch The Collector? Because that was all covered in the first film.

No. I didn't know that this was a sequel until someone referred to it in these comments. I've got the first one in my Netflix queue now.
