Hated when Sigourney... (spoilers)

When she died. I know it was done to exacerbate Murphy's character's motivation, but it was still very depressing and basically unnecessary. The movie goes downhill from there. Their interaction was pretty much the most interesting part of the movie (next to debunking).
Reminds me of the moment when Sup's dad dies and Sup's pissed because he can't stop a heart attack. But that was more effective than this.

I agree. She played fantastic in Red Lights (no surprise!) but the role itself was very interesting. I was very disappointed that they killed her so quickly. I think the movie would be much more interesting if they developed more her character.

I also didn't like the heavy-handed foreshadowing when they showed her taking pills all the time.

Me too. Weaver's character was the movie. I was much more into her character than I was Cillian Murphy's. The level of the movie dropped significantly once Weaver was no longer on the screen. 

Generally speaking, it's a rare movie where Weaver's performance isn't the most interesting thing happening on screen. She's always worth watching no matter what is going on around her.

reply

I agree completely. I kind of hoped she would come back as a ghost or something.

reply

lol, me too, I have to admit...

Right. Well, I have to-- I have to go now, Duane, because I, I'm due back on the planet Earth.

reply

well that would be a twist to conclude the story!

reply

Well as neither of the pair believed in ghosts her coming back as one would be silly.

reply

And as neither of the pair admitted to believe in super-powerful telekinetics, him being revealed to be one would be silly.

Yeah. I was like, "Well, that's how they write female characters in Hollywood. Basically, disposable."

reply

In what way is Red Lights "Hollywood"? Rodrigo Cortes is Spanish; the film was a Spanish-Canadian co-production. Fresher insults, please: poor "Hollywood" by now is no more than pulp.

That said, I agree with the idea that Margaret's death hamstrung the narrative: her chemistry with Tom was just about the best part of the show.

I agree. She was the reason I watched this movie in the first place. Once they killed her off, I almost didn't want to finish the movie.

reply

I get the impression that Sigourney Weaver no longer does full movies. She probably will only sign on if she can wrap after two weeks or something. She does nothing but small parts nowadays.

I also agree with the OP and just about everyone in this thread. After it ended I was trying to figure out when it "went wrong" and I came on this board and the OP is spot-on. When she died, the movie just went down hill. A shame, as I was really enjoying this movie I picked off NetFlix at 2AM.

IMHO I'd rather have her live and them both debunk Silver at the very end..

P.S. So what happened to the University's report? I know he signed it but..
