Quirky for the sake of being quirky

I get it. That's Anderson's style. But this was just too much for me to stomach. That, combined with the fact that there was barely a story to speak of, left me feeling rather unimpressed.

The two runaway kids were also somewhat irritating. I understand that this was their first film, and I guess they did a good job considering, but it was very obvious how inexperienced they were, and it just kind of ruined it for me. It felt more like I was watching an elementary school play. Or was that what he was going for?

The story is about first love. It's moving in a naive, nostalgic kind of way.

And the kids gave some pretty good performances. It didn't come off as a play at all, but that hyper-stylized reality Wes is known for.

Let's be bad guys.

I disagree that it's quirky just to be quirky. I thought it was charming and loved it but I think it's the kind of movie that's just not for everyone. That being said that doesn't make it a bad movie.
