My thoughts on 'Jig'

This was a decently entertaining documentary following the style of "Spellbound".

It's too bad there's no subtitles option on DVD. As an American I found much of the
dialog hard to understand.

The music and dancing is thoroughly entertaining but I'd like to have seen them follow some mid-teen girls. They seemed to go for the extremes: the youngest age group (10 yr old) girls and boys, the oldest group girls (19-21), and teen boys to show how boys can be dancers despite how it might them them seem like social misfits.

I thought it was a very good documentary as well. It highlighted both the positive and the negative in the sport. I absolutely loved Brogan McKay and thought she was just a well grounded and nice child. Her counterpart on the other hand did not come off as sweet and her statements and the way her mother was portrayed showed the differences between the haves and have nots in this sport. It may have been the editing but the whole outtake on getting private lessons was not great and showing the whole "I'm Winning. I"m winning after round one scores were released was not good sportsmanship". The older girls embodied the true spirit of competition and it is seen so evidently in the oldest age groups they are there because they love it. They want to win but they are kind and supportive of one another

I liked it, I did Irish dance for a very short time and really enjoyed it, plus it looks so amazing to watch.

The older girls were all friendly and supportive of each other despite the healthy competition, they were all getting a bit old though so I hope they had other things going on in their life except dance. Like the 19 year old whose Mum was still paying for it, I would hope she would be contributing a bit?

Brogan was very sweet, I didn't mind Julia either I just thought she was more reserved but she obviously liked the dancing just as much and she was very open about how much she admired Brogan (learning her moves from youtube). Brogan was so sweet when Julia won and she rushed to hug her. I actually think Brogan was unusual for not having private lessons at her age - even others who struggled to afford it had private lessons e.g. that little boy. It was so sweet how he said he liked dancing more than football, also he was amazing. It did annoy me how his family said "he's not gay!" as if it was a bad thing, I know they were just trying to defend him but it made me sad that it's still considered such a negative thing.

I thought it was very well done documentary. The girls were talented, determined and quite self disciplined. Great supporting parents and teachers as well. Splendid job all of you!!!!! I just wish there were subtitles since I'm not a native English speaker.
