The wigs

Are they doing a jig or a wig? I don't mind tradition but where did this come from? I come from an Irish family and very few of us have curly hair. I'd like the focus to be more on the dancing and less on being able to afford the accessories.

Good film though. I just think the competition should be a little less like a fashion show.

Agree. It's heading in the direction of the extremes of kids' beauty pageants (which I abhor). The wigs are ridiculous, and the costumes are all trying to outdo each other, as well. Let's get back to the traditions of Irish dancing excellence and leave all this expensive twaddle behind. It's the dancing that counts, not how much money you can spend or how silly you can look. And imagine how hot those wigs are for dancers!

Must agree that the absurd wigs & horribly expensive costumes (though they were lovely & intricate) were a turnoff.

The wigs are there because it goes back to the tradition of Sunday best. It is just easier for dancers to put on the wig before a competition versus curling their hair or sleeping with curlers in.
