Why the still camera ??????

Why use a still cam that overheats, gets clogged with dust and can't be held steady without a tripod?
My guess is that the army didn't want him shooting video for a documentary in the first place.
Also, a pro video cam looks a little too much like a rocket launcher

What are you referring to? I am just wondering. I've just seen that documentary, and I don't remember any mentioning of the camera equipment used. I don't remember still images.

I have to write something on what in the movie informed me how, but I just don't want to now. Later. For now, I am certainly impressed.

I thought the movies title 'To hell and back' was directed at the seargents experiences explicitly, when later in the mall, leaving the pharmacy, I heard his wife concluding "we've been through hell and back, that's for sure" and I thought yes, of course; seeing the seargent in his living room, touting two fistguns, calling for a game of russian roulette, while next to him his wife is actually wearing a frozen smile (or trying not to crack?).

(Insider: "That's the best answer I ever heard".
What was the question? What was the answer?)

There's a shot towards the end, in Afghanistan. You can see one camera person holding a dlsr with a white lens (dust?). I'm guessing they had at least two camera men.

Pretty amazing when you think about it. While there are more enveloping war documentaries out there, the ability to shoot such high quality footage with such a small camera brings so many options. I'm sure it's more than a small bit safer for the cameramen!

yea one of my favorite aspects was the cinematography. Danfung is a still photographer who thought that photos were not capturing a full impact because the viewers are so desensitized now from pictures. So the dlsr probably was also a comfortable piece of equipment for him to use. You can see his experience in capturing poignant and thought provoking images, but different for him, now they are moving and telling a fuller story. He deserve the best cinematography award that he won at Sundance.
