Seriously anti-war

The Afghan people encountering US soldiers clearly did not want them there, would lie to appease the Taliban, and, what's sad, is the American soldiers didn't seem to know what they were doing most of the time, just chaos and confusion.
The soldier who came home with the wounded leg...scary to see him with the guns around his wife. I wonder if she is still with him.

I see these facts were surprising to you, I'm glad you familiarized yourself with some much-needed-to-know-to-the-public information. I'd also recommend as essential viewing: "The Battle for Marjah," "Wartorn: 1861-2010, "Restrepo."

reply

The film featured Marines, not soldiers.

reply

I think the difference between marines and soldiers was lost on the Afghans.

Thanks for the link. Very intelligently written, and I see that chaos and confusion are a big part of war. Sad.

That post sounded okay until you started making up facts.

I would fault the US soldiers in the sense that imho any US citizen deciding nowaydas to join the US army is, or should be, aware that given the history of the US foreign policy after the WWII he/she will with all probability be send abrod to fight an unnecessary and unjustified war. In light of that joining is either stupidity, naivity or a desparation (like doing it for economical reasons). Plus maybe some percentage of psychopats who do like to opress and kill others.

For some of them taking part in such wars becomes eye-opener and and on coming back home they become anti-war activists.

Thank you, Malforzata, for mentioning the volunteer aspect of the military.
I suspect the majority of those who volunteer are doing so for financial reasons, especially in today's economy.

reply

So in other words, they are mercenaries.

"I suspect the majority of those who volunteer are doing so for financial reasons, especially in today's economy."

Do you not see a direct correlation as maybe a reason to why our government had destroyed our economy? I'm not insinuating it's a big reason for our economical mess but it is a benefit for recruitment. Poor people's kids. Nothing new.

"I did not hit her.... I did not!" Oh hi imdb.com

So just because there aren't any large scale wars that means that all military operations, peacekeeping etc is unnecessary and unjustified?
