Does anyone know if they have to tag gators that
have been partially eaten by other gators? I have seen them pull up some that are really bad and if they have to waste a tag on it they won't get paid much, just for their supper I guess.

Yes, they have to tag a gator that has been eaten. The narrator said so in the episode '2 days to tag out.'
"Taken out of context I must seem so strange." ani d.

That's what I thought too, that they had to tag everything they caught, regardless.
shareYes it was explained a few episodes ago that every gator has to be tagged and brought in no matter what.
shareThat's what I figured cause they would throw back the small ones but it doesn't seem fair to them either. I have been watching them out of order since we recently got the channel they are on but I watched the whole first season on Netflix on the computer and I get to see a new one now that I know they are on Thursday night, can't wait, love me them Cajuns! Want to go meet them now. I am in Ohio so I don't see that happening, hubby and grown sons think I am crazy!
sharethey have to tag every gator that gets hooked......think about it, if they were allowed to throw them back, it would encourage hunters to cull their catch and throw small gators back.....i'm sure that's the intent of making every gator require a tag.

I'm sure they do have to tag the ones that are mutilated by other gators. It's just a part of the hunt. In some states, if you shoot an animal like a deer or an elk and aren't able to recover it, or you find it being eaten by other animals, you technically filled your tag and aren't supposed to harvest another animal. That's why it is so important that they go check their lines every day. It sucks that they aren't getting a first rate animal to sell at market, but at the very least I'm sure they could use them for bait or something.
....but yeah, the honor system is definitely at play here.
how about the ones that break a line and get away?
you get a 3 footer in there cut the line or shred it yourself and you don't have to waste a tag on a baby.
