Gloves for their hands
There should be some type of gloves they can wear on their hands when wrestling the gators into the boat. It always looks so painful when they are trying to pull the gators close to them.

Maybe it doesn't allow a good grasp? slippery?

Every time I see them pulling in a gator, especially that blond hair front tooth missing one, I feel pain in my hands from rope burn.
Good god image their regular grip.
It's not as bad as you think. I've never pulled in any monster gators, but I have pulled some 200-300 pounders with no gloves and as long as you got a good grip on the rope it's not bad at all.
Salvatore Lucania must be lookin' down on all of us wit' great pride
I know they are tough and all, but they risk losing gators if they just use their bare hands on those thin lines.
Then, they aren't that bright.
I have alot of admiration for them nonetheless. They work hard, and that is a trait I respect.

If any of you spent one day out there you'd know these answers even though they should be common sense. They don't use gloves because they don't need them. If you've ever played guitar or did manual labor you'd know the hands develop calluses and the skin toughens up. They do wear glasses for the long rides in the boat but not while close to the bank where they catch the gators. Can anyone figure out why???? Because it's in the phuking shade. You people are going to speculate on this sh!t about what they could or couldn't do to make things better or more efficient even though you haven't spent 5 minutes doing it as opposed to these families who have done this for hundreds of years.
Why do they all not have one of those winches to raise the gator out of the water like Bruce has on his boat
Money.

I worked in a steel fabrication plant for five years and most of the work was outside and some of the hardest labor you can do. I had tough hands also, but I still needed gloves to handle lines of rope or cable so I didn't lose them.
It has nothing to do with how tough you are, it has to do with the girth of the material and insuring you keep a grip on it.
I could see if the lines the swampers are using were thick, but they are not.

Look closer. I've seen both Joe and R.J. using gloves to haul in the lines.
shareI just watched an episode that featured Liz and Kristi where Liz was complaining that her hands were causing her so much pain that she couldn't hold the ropes. She had many band aids and tape on her fingers. Is it a macho thing or are they trying to create added drama? They talked constantly about not being able to fill tags because Liz's hands were so bad. Seems to me a good pair of leather glove would solve the problem.
