R.J. Molinere and Guns

Maybe I missed it, but I don't believe that I ever saw R.J. Molinere shoot or even hold a gun. It's always JPaul who does all of the shooting (and who never seems to put the gun down). When R.J. hurt himself and couldn't hold the rope, JPaul had to hold the gator and shoot him at the same time. R.J. seemed physically able to at least shoot the gator. Even when they went turkey hunting, they used a crossbow. My question is: Is R.J. Molinere a convicted felon? It could possibly explain his never even touching a firearm.
Just wondering.

If he was,then law enforcement could still get for being in possession of a firearm.For instance,when J.Paul left the boat with the rifle still in it.The ATF considers that the same as him owning a gun.

In the episode where JPaul kept firing and missing and they called their Tribe Chief to banish the evil sprits they thought were giving them bad juju it was mentioned that jpaul is well known to be the best sharpshooter in the state. Which is why they thought they were being messed with by evil spirits when he kept missing his shot.
