Shut up and sing!

Nice documentary, but like the guy in the radio interview says:

"It's kinda like your song: Shut Up and Drive. Well, shut up and sing, you know? I mean, why does this have to be a part of who Sehlly Wright is to me, as a fan?"

Now when she responds with the "I'm offering my entire truth", how does that answer the question?

Why would any fan (or anyone in the public, for that matter) need to know the "entire truth" about Shelly Wright? Does she also feel the need to come out and tell us the truth about how often she lets out a fart?

I'm ok with her coming out. I get that it was important to her to be honest about who she is, but what bothers me is the ending of the film. She seems to now define herself as just gay instead of a gay person who sings and writes, etc. She is now a pawn in the gay movement, waving the rainbow flag and being the queen in a gay pride parade. Wouldn't she be a better role model by coming out and getting on with her life, instead of becoming a spokesperson for gay causes? It seems that she was manipulated by the Nashiville establishment to create a certain image, which obviously caused her a lot of pain, and is now being manipulated to push a different agenda.

I'm not that proud of everything I've done, but I'm not that ashamed, either.

"Push a different agenda"?? There is no "gay" agenda. She's embracing what she never felt comfortable to fully embrace her entire life! She did something incredibly brave. To me, she seemed to be a person who needed control, in all aspects of her life. In coming out, she had to give up some of that control. Her career, how people perceived her, any form of reaction, good or bad, was out of her hands. One does not know how liberating it is to come out and tell the people who know you that you are in fact gay, not unless they have been there themselves. You can at least try and understand. She IS getting on with her life, and being OUT and PROUD is now a part of her life.

A person is a role model when they live their life according to what they really want rather than what society or anyone else feels they should be doing. Right now she wants to make life better for gay youth. So she is a great role model. Although she did mention in the movie that she is working on new music as well as writing a movie script. So she's doing many things. GO CHELY!!
