A lot more amusing than I expected

Caught Rites of Passage on Showtime tonight and I was expecting the usual formulaic horror stuff. After viewing, I wouldn't even classify this as a horror movie -- it's more of a dark comedy, like Very Bad Things.

The dialog and characters were surprisingly good. One thing this movie gets 100% right is the way people behave when they're drunk, stoned or tripping. Some of the early stuff ("Who the f@ck is this creeper?" "You look like the lead singer from Weezer!") was pretty funny and laid the groundwork properly for the rest of the film.

The third act was a bit too chaotic and long, and the movie didn't resolve the fates of at least two characters, but overall it wasn't a bad way to spend two hours on a Monday night.

THANK YOU!!
You are a gentleman and a scholar, lol

Yes, I thought this movie was awesome, I literally LOL almost the entire time.
This was obviously done for dark humor, and it seems no one got it, which is a
shame.
You have the crazy brother, high on Indian crack lol, who is tripping balls the
whole film. He is funny as hell, but the king mayor of crazy town here was
Christian Slater. OMG!! I have never seen him so freaking funny in my whole
life. The dialogue between him and that sock puppet was hilarious....

Watching this on Free View's Horror Channel now. Christian Slater laying the smack down on those two idiots, and his interactions with the woolly monkey are both hilarious!!!

I can only hope one day this will become a cult classic.

Sometimes it takes years for movies like this to become something.
Look at a movie like Carnival of Souls, that was made in the 60's
by a man who made instructional films. Wasn't until the 80's and 90's
before it became an underground hit.
And I'm sorry, but this movie blows CoS's away.
