THIS *IS* A MASTERPIECE
If you don't think this is a masterpiece, watch it again. The more I watch this, the more I appreciate the incredible writing, and the marvelous acting by Mirren and Pacino. This is a gem not to be missed, and see it at least twice. Kudos to Mamet, who kept his sometimes very annoying and stilted dialog out of this one, especially because the movie was 'all' dialog. The first time I saw this movie, I was worried that Mamet was being an apologist for murderer Spector. Now I look at this movie as an incredible piece of fiction based upon the Spector case.
Maybe you have to be old enough to instantly know what that yellow adapter was in one of the early scenes, and the disk with the large hole in the center. Spector's music was some of the absolute best produced during my teen years. Spector deserved a statue, pointing to him as one of the gods of 60's music. Unfortunately, his standing has been much diminished by his appearance, behavior, and the murder of that lovely woman.
