Deaf people don't make noise?

No one in this movie laughed out loud, grunted loudly, or screamed (even while being run over by a truck). Is that realistic?

reply

Definitely not.

*whole post is a spoiler*

exactly what i thought throughout.

it was dumb as hell. no screams as a *beep* truck backs over you? mostly silent sex. the only memorable noises was when she went through the horrific abortion. i guess that just made the scene more traumatic, but i don't think it would've made the film worse had it been more realistic and shown the deaf people making noise in more scenes such as the ones i mentioned.

I think it depends upon when a person becomes deaf. There are deaf mutes, as appeared in this film and then others who makes noises as they sign. But there were accompanying noises at times.

Deaf people are as loud as hell. There are squeals and squawks and grunts and gasps. Somebody is always calling one of their kids
No, deaf people are not silent. True some may laugh silently, at least in front of hearing people. Or not use their voices even if they can speak quite well, at least not use them around deaf people. But this whole they live in a silent worlds is a hearing people stereotype.

reply

They do live in a silent world but that doesn't mean they are quiet. They vocalize and make noises without knowing how their volume affects others. The ending scene was so ridiculous to me because he'd make solid thumps and bumps while grabbing the little dressers and smashing them which would wake a deaf person,(They can feel the thumps and bumps.) But the other guy would just sleep like he noticed nothing at all. I get woken by doors slamming on floors below me because I can feel it even if I don't hear it.

I'm deaf person and I can to laugh, talk and scream. All! But the deaf people from Ukranie looks much different than here (Serbia).

There's something wrong with Esther.

Did you understand any of the signing? Just wondering if there is a European standard.

I'm a police man sir, I don't have any feelings

reply

A very little bit. I didn't learn Ukranie/Russian sign language, but I understood the story.
