Sooo…? The Rabbit?

Any thoughts on this? I'm surprised I haven't seen a thread regarding this. It's just one of those weird things that pops up in the movie exactly twice for approximately 3 seconds each time.

The director is obviously trying to get across some weird symbolic point… but I have no idea the significance.

Any thoughts on what the white rabbit is all about? Some kind of strange "Alice in Wonderland," reference?
