Highly Enjoyable!

I cannot understand why this film isn't more popular than it is. It's not as though there are a bunch of other Atlantis films out there boasting the same detail, fine acting and historical fact. The only other I can even find is Atlantis the TV show which is more of a spoof involving time travel and zany characters than anything else.

To me the acting was superb. Stephanie Leonidas is a favorite of mine ever since Mirror Mask and it was great to see her in something so serious. I'm not overly familiar with the other actors, but I have seen Langley Kirkwood in some things and thought he was great. I especially liked the guy who was the high priestess' adviser and antagonist of Kirkwood. He had the perfect evil sounding gravelly voice.

Some say that the narration took away from the film, but I really think that tying in fact with the drama was a good move. It's nice to learn and be entertained at the same time and I think Tom Conti was spectacular. I had to check because to me he sounded almost exactly like Omar Sharif who did the narration for 10,000 BC.

I don't think the CGI took anything away, I think it mostly helped explain things. There was one obviously stock footage shot of a plinear eruption, but it was brief and hardly noticeable. I also think that the music was most certainly not pompous by any means. Most of my favorite films have great scores and I have to wonder what Star Wars would have been like with a different composer.

I think the most amazing thing in this day and age is that the filmmakers were able to pull off this great project and keep it clean. It's suitable for the whole family- no real gore, no profanity, no nudity. That is so very rare these days and very refreshing! This ranks up there with another favorite disaster film- Pompeii The Last Day - not the all star cast Pompeii of recent years although I thought that was pretty good too. Overall I say 10/10.
