Based on a true life crime?
Anyone have any info about this claim?
shareSion Son's several works are loosely based on actual crimes. However, I have to emphasize "loosely." This film is based on a murder case in Tokyo in 1997. A 39 year old woman got killed in a vacant apartment. She was from a good family, graduated from a prestigious university and she was an elite business woman. Although she earned enough money, she turned out to be a prostitute at night. One of her clients was arrested for the murder. He is Nepalese and was sentenced for the lifetime in prison although there was little evidence. I hope he would have a new trial.
shareha, I actually just finished watching this movie, went to IMDb and read this topic, and realized that 3 days ago, I read a AP's news about a Nepal man returning home after 15 years in jail in Japan :D. Good for him.
shareOh wow, I actually watch that report as well. I need to review that more closely.
I've just finished the film. I can recognise it's a masterpiece, but at my current intellectual and emotional level, I am unable to comprehend all it's themes and messages.
Hard to undestand it all yes, but this is always the case with Sion Sono movies. I loved the use of Mahler symphony in this, and music choice in general. A great experience !
shareFrom what I've heard, Japanese life tends to be very structured. Basically each person has a role he/she is expected to fill... i.e. there are things everyone is expected to say or do in certain situations. Thus there is a lot of angst for people who need to feel alive to feel like an individual.
This can lead to some strange behavior.
