Where is the uncut version?

Ive heard that the blu ray has both cut and uncut versions of the film. Is this true? If so, im definitely buying. I dont have to worry about regions since i have an all region blu ray player so if anyone knows anything about an uncut edition of this film please let me know. Thank you.

reply

It only has the international release of the film, in other words, no uncut version.

reply

Damn. Any news when their will be a uncut version or no? Thank you btw.

Japan will probably release it uncut as that is what is being played in theaters there right now, but the chances of there being English subtitles is pretty low. North America and Australian distribution are probably the next two options I can think of for English subtitles.

I think we would have got both releases of the film but it seems like releasing the movie uncut was the only leverage the movie studio had left since the DVD came out on home video as it was just hitting theaters in Japan.

As for the international release, apparently it is Sion Sono's preferred cut of the film and even if that it is true, 30 minutes of footage is still a significant amount to excised. That being said, most the additional footage that was left out has to do with the detective part of the story and it's been said that it doesn't really add much to the overall movie. If I were you, I would just buy the Region 2 blu-ray. I really enjoyed the movie for it was and even with the knowledge of the missing scenes, the story was still pretty tight for me.

Thanks again for your reply elite. I will have to just get the international cut for now and its good to hear it is still a great film even with the missing footage. Sion Sono is one of my favorite directors after all so ive been wanting to see this for quite awhile.

How did this film get past Japan's strict censorship? I thought they had a law for only showing full frontal nudity with mosaics?

reply

It's only for genitalia and if I remember correctly there was none shown throughout the movie.

reply

I thought it was pubic hair, which seems strange as there was a fair amount of bush in this film.

I believe that in Japan you can show bush as long as the actual genitalia (both male and female) isn't shown.

reply

Well, let's just say from my viewing of "other" Japanese movies, the mosaic is used the same way as in this movie.

reply

Pubic hair is ok. It's the actual vagina and penis that are censored.

According to wiki the only places who got the uncut version were Japan, Germany and one other I forget. Once again piracy turns out better for the consumer in some situations, absolutely ludicrous.
