The Mayor of San Paolo mentioned "visual pollution" and the director of Urban Planning (the woman that looked like Natalie from The Facts of Life) was talking about not being about to see the city but reading and reading (the ads). The people in the street interviews were just saying that it was nice to not see all the advertising in their city any more and to be able to focus on (basically the culture of the city). The eyeglass owner was talking about they have to "work" and have a product to attract customers and not rely on advertising and also have customer referrals.

but it was pretty much one-sided (like most documentaries).
what about the lack of remarkable architecture other than Oscar Niemeyer's work, the MASP (Museum of Art of São Paulo) and the new bridge (as seen on the foursquare badge for the city)?
what about the fact that Rede Globo, Brazil's top-rated television network was very happy with this legislation, since there'd more advertisers for both their local (the São Paulo station is an O&O) and network programming, and even more product placement opportunities, since there are now smaller signs, which mean product placement is more prominent? and they're also a network that likes stadium naming rights as much as FIFA, UEFA and the IOC (i.e., doesn't like it at all).
what about the fact the city is just about to accept offers from companies interested in managing advertising in bus shelters and street clocks (at a much, much, much higher price than the previous contract, that expired years ago, since the winning company will have the monopoly over outdoor advertising in São Paulo)?

BTW, I live in a city just outside São Paulo (that enacted similar legislation a couple of years ago).

Wow...

You don't speak portuguese?

The World CUP (2014) and The Olympics (2016) are coming...

reply

Yeah, for some reason it doesn't have hardsubs for the Portuguese dialogue. You would have to turn on the subtitles on the DVD.

".SRT" files are subtitles. Search for the word "Brazil" and go crazy with oh-so-difficult-to-find information.
