Juan Pablo needs to give it up

His mama is a sociopath who's never going to repent. And he can pray until he's blue in the face, but it's not going to make a difference.

Many people have a very difficult time accepting this about relatives. Just watch the parent of a drug-addicted teen.

And don't forget my biggest pet peeve in novelas: Mandatory forgiveness. JP wants to forgive his mother, but she is making it impossible.

BTW I've heard lots of conflicting things about the strictness of the seal of the confessional. If novela writers are telling us the truth, I wonder how often the confessional is abused in the real world.

I wonder whether JP and Padre Geronimo will have the privilege of seeing Bernarda enter hell.

I can imagine.

I'm beginning to wonder if she even cares if he forgives her or not.

I don't know.

I hope so. I don't know about Padre Jeronimo, but I think Juan Pablo would be sorry to see that happen. I really think that's where she'll end up because of all the evil things that she's done and her steadfast refusal to repent. I think it's because somewhere in her twisted mind, she thinks God gave her permission to punish people she thinks are sinners when what she's really doing is using God as an excuse to inflict physical and emotional pain on people she doesn't like or have done things to her in the past.

Padre Geronimo won't be sorry, so he'll go to confession over that. That cool bishop will be very understanding because he will feel the same. JP will be sorry, but he'll get over it. He has a loving daughter and will be close to the rest of her family.

Bernarda just wants JP to give her absolution. She has the idea that priests aren't supposed to have emotions which is crazy because they can't be empathetic otherwise. This all comes out of her own narcissism because her whole motive for brainwashing him into the priesthood was about her own salvation and JP isn't entitled to judge her.

Yeah, right.

The only two emotions Bernarda has are fear and hatred. On some level she knows she committed a mortal sin and therefore fears for her immortal soul. By that measure she should be punished in the way she "punishes" other sinners. Her lack of repentance should disqualify her from being the right hand of God. But because she is dangerously insane she can't see that.

I'd love for her to hear JP say that if he had known about Victoria's pregnancy he would have left the seminary to take responsibility for her and the baby. On the other hand, she might murder him over such a revelation.
